Dear Mayor Transparency

by:  Diane Benjamin

Mayor Transparency:

You asked the City Council to tell you who they thought should get the appointment to fill Fazzini’s Ward 8 seat.  Are their comments a secret?  Does the public not have a right to know their thoughts?  Are you going to release the comments made by the Council?  Are you just going to announce a name with no reason for giving the person the Council seat?

Being on the Council is a sacred trust placed in that person by the people of their Ward.  Shouldn’t the citizens of Ward 8 be told why your pick is the best possible person?  Shouldn’t the citizens of Ward 8 see why the other Council members think that person is the best pick, or did you ignore what they submitted?  Was the choice unanimous?  Did the person you are picking exhibit some exceptional knowledge of the City, or did you just appoint another potted plant?

Does everything you do have to be a secret?

Can you drop the transparency act now?

  1. Actually, Mayor Renner is pretty transparent. Witness the latest action he took with appointing a member of the local elite who hasn’t attended a solitary City Council meeting or other related function. The only other choice – a dual-service veteran with a better attendance record than most of the sitting Council members and an obvious dedication to Truth, Justice, and the American way as evidenced by his frequent participation in Public Comments at those City Council meetings. If what is transparent eludes you, you’re not paying very good attention… 😉

    1. Alton,
This is the same stunt Renner tried to pull with Kevin Lower by appointing Jamie Mathey to fill Bernie’s place. It didn’t work for Renner then and this won’t either. Run against her and win your seat firm and proper. You can do it and you WILL win. We need you.

    2. The mayor promised transparency and delivered it only in the sense that you can see right through him, his intentions, his agenda, clear as a bell. I would argue though that the “local elite” are mere local lemmings, no thoughts of their own, just sit down, shut up and vote as the mayor wants.

  2. Thanks for the point of clarification on Stockton appointing Mathy. You’re right. I forgot, but Renner would have done the same thing. There’s no difference at all; just that Renner has a personality that he hides behind.
