Now that Gov Quinn has decided pensions have to be reformed, what do some teachers think?
Below are excerpts from a Twitter conversation I had with 2 teachers responding to the BLNNews post concerning pensions:
The names were removed to protect their privacy. Keep in mind, Twitter users have to abbreviate because tweets are only 140 characters.
Me: How about the people promised Social Security? Gov screwed all of us! They only passed pensions for votes.
Them: agree! Who cares about silly things like promises & Constitutions!
Me: Welcome to the rest of the population already screwed!
Them: u know teachers may earn SS but don’t get it? But their pension benefits are guaranteed by the Constitution!
Them: “Govt screwed all of us?” Ergo, let’s screw over the teachers? – faulty logic.
Me: Are you trying to say Social Security and Medicare wasn’t promised? WE are all screwed
Them: Didn’t say that. Thought you tea party folks believed in following the Constitution though?
Me: Our elected officials don’t follow it! Want more tax increases? People will desert Illinois! Illinois broke!
Them: no don’t need more tax increases on broken system. Needs to be graduated & fair. Would reduce taxes for most.
Me: Tax the Rich?
Them: Couldn’t have said it better myself
Me: There aren’t enough rich people to tax. They can leave the state: California, NY. Il is 48th for Bus because of tx
Them: Oh, well, if you say so!
