Exposing the local power brokers

by:  Diane Benjamin

This is going to be fun!  Every Pantagraph reader will be able to see for themselves who values your right to be personally represented on the Bloomington City Council and who wants to steal it!

First liberty thief:  Carol Reitan.

The spin used to get you to vote YES on the Ward referendum is priceless!  You get 4 votes.  Wonderful, until you see how much money is being thrown into local elections.  The Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Council, and maybe even State Farm, BroMenn, IWU, and ISU will pour money into candidates THEY want.  There is nothing better than crony capitalism.  Democracy?  Not a chance.  Taking away your personal alderman is a power grab, those pesky citizens on the Council that weren’t funded by elitists have got to go!

You are looking at the same problem plaguing the entire country.  The elitists think they are way smarter than you.  They believe they can sneak anything by people because their names are familiar.  I expect the Buchanan’s letters soon.  Yes, I’m sure they already have a list of who will write their letter and when.

The only facts you need to make a decision are these:

Modified Wards got on the ballot because 3 aldermen and the Bloomington Mayor want it.

It started with a lie about TRANSPARENCY

They picked a Primary election because most people don’t vote in primaries

Elections will cost significantly more because an entire city campaign is more expensive than a Ward

You will lose one alderman

The entire city will be reduced from 9 wards to 5

Your Ward alderman probably won’t live in your area because the Wards will be much bigger

Nobody has said who will draw the new Wards.  You can bet they will be fixed for candidates they want on the Council

Three at-large aldermen is discriminatory because the entire City won’t have the same representation on the Council.  They do now under the Ward system

There’s more, but I can add to the list when the next elitist gets their letter printed.

I wonder what the Pantagraph position will be?  Elitist or representation.  Ummmmm.

By March you should have the name of every character in town who thinks you aren’t too smart!  I will keep a list for you!

  1. Count on Carol’s letter in this morning’s Pantycrap reminded me of why Fire Trucks are Red:

“Because they have eight wheels and four people on them, and four plus eight is twelve, and there are twelve inches in a foot, and one foot is a ruler, and Queen Elizabeth was a ruler, and Queen Elizabeth was also a ship, and the ship sailed the seas, and in the seas are fish, and fish have fins, and the Fins fought the Russians, and the Russians are red, and that’s why firetrucks are red.”

Count on Carol’s logic and reasoning with the modified ward system is just that twisted.

I too can’t wait to read Rich Buchanan’s letter in the Pantycrap. It should be equally as entertaining. Maybe Mike Matejka can write it for him.

It’s was Count on Carol’s work and influence at Westminster Village that got Fazzini on the City Council.

  2. Well I am in Ward 2, our Alderman doesn’t care about those in our Ward, trying to get ahold of him on the phone is next thing to impossible. He is rubber stamp all the way !!
    ( A real disappointment )
