What Tari reads: Progressive propaganda

You can’t understand why politicians do what they do unless you know where their governing information comes from.  Professor Renner used to work for the International City Managers Association.  They are having a convention in September, I expect City Manger David Hales and probably Tari will attend.  Of course, it will be at taxpayer expense.  The goal of this organization is to promote INTERNATIONAL standards for local government, not American standards, not property rights standards, not freedom standards, not constitutional standards.  Taxpayers are funding local government indoctrination, and they don’t even realize it.  Normal-your government is infected by this organization too.

The story concerns a county in California with plans to pass a living wage ordinance:

The ordinance would affect county workers and those employed by companies contracted by the county, and put health care, job security and other quality-of-life requirements in the mix of guaranteed benefits.

Does every worker have a RIGHT to a living wage?  I could tell you what the founders of this country believed:  RIGHTS come from GOD.  “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” (Declaration of Independence)

Note “endowed” not guaranteed.  Life has no guarantees unless government creates them.

Since God and the Constitution are under attack these days, I will use logic to explain why California continues to fail their citizens.  If you haven’t noticed, Illinois wants the same thing.

The California ordinance would affect anybody doing business with the County.  Obviously the costs to these businesses will increase.  That means they have to charge more for their services.  There is no magic money being withheld from workers that businesses are automatically going to fork over because the county passes an ordinance.  So who ends up paying?  Taxpayers.  Everything the County purchases or contracts for will be more expensive.  This is nothing more than wealth redistribution – not from the rich, the middle class tax payers.

Wealth disparity is growing.  Incomes are decreasing.  Why?  Government policies are restraining economic development.  Fossil fuels are vilified, how many good paying jobs has that cost?  North Dakota is booming, but Illinois just put the brakes on fracking because environmentalist who abhor fossil fuels were louder than you were.   The impact of ObamaCare is still not totally known because the rules keep changing, but many businesses are not hiring because of it.  The EPA has clamped down on all businesses without regard to how jobs are affected.

Redistributing wealth  is not only anti-American, it is destructive.  Bloomington had the “living wage” discussion when employees at the Coliseum wanted it.  It was turned down then, but articles like this are on the professor’s daily read list.  The ICMA sends a lot of emails, many with progressive ideas for local government.

Next time you hear a politician say “We have to keep making progress”, ask them WHAT ARE THEY PROGRESSING to?

I guarantee it doesn’t mean getting government out of you life.

  1. Good article but I will point out that my opinion of fracking is that it is a really bad idea. Millions of gallons of water is used for fracking and environmental damage left behind is abhorrent. Immediate and surrounding areas of ground water are poisoned. Many ideas about energy that really work and are cheap have simply been ignored and hidden due to the power of big oil.

    1. It has been done for over 40 years. The last EPA chief said it doesn’t cause environmental damage. Who are you going to trust?
