Bloomington vrs Madison Wisconsin

by:  Diane Benjamin

The population of Madison Wisconsin is estimated at  243,344, Bloomington is around 77,000.  That makes Madison more than 3 times bigger than Bloomington.

Madison has a full-time Mayor, salary $131,855.74

Bloomington has a full-time City Manager, salary $202,489

Bloomington has 23 employees earning more than $125,000.

Madison has 25 employees earning more than $125,000 and nobody earning over $200,000.

The below Bloomington employees were the ones printed last week in the Pantagraph.  Some were NOT employees for a full year, so their actual salary is higher.  The Madison employees are below too, I have no idea if all were full-year employees.

How does Madison govern more than 3 times the number of people paying lower salaries?

I hear their roads aren’t falling apart either.

Why does Bloomington have a guy from out-of-town as City Manager?  Time to get a full time Mayor YOU can hold responsible instead?

  1. Interesting to read your comparisons to my former home town of Madison, the Moscow of the Midwest. I was not aware the salary structure here had grown so much to remain “competitive”. Keep in mind that Madison and Dane County are run by nothing but liberal democrats and PC EVERYTHING rules. The main function of all politics in Madison is to rid the state of Scott Walker. I’ll be leaving Illinois soon for my home state, but as much as I love the views and many things about Madison, I will not be living in that liberal PC bastion again.

  2. I too was amazed…my brother and sister-in-law made sure their college kids had absentee ballots so they could vote for Walker.. Bloomington is definitely out of whack…

  3. Somebody show this chart to David Sage, since he thinks Blm needs to be competitive. He’s sure done a 180 since first being elected.
