Not so fast Tari. Maybe you didn’t know about this report. Or maybe you did and decided to pretend it didn’t exist. Maybe you will explain.
The below is from CBS Chicago in a report dated December 16, 2014
Not including Chicago, here are the 10 Illinois cities with the most violent crime:
1. Rockford
2. Springfield
3. Peoria
4. Champaign
5. Aurora
6. Joliet
7. Harvey
8. Waukegan
9. Bloomington
10. Decatur
It isn’t your imagination that crime is up. There is a link in the article to statistics for violent crimes by city. I don’t remember seeing any press coverage of the large numbers listed in Bloomington! (I’m not surprised either) Has the local bird-cage liner done an editorial demanding the City spend money to protect citizens and drop the Quality of Life spending? I must have missed it.

The FBI cautions against drawing blanket conclusions from the rankings, saying there are many factors that affect crime.
“Each year when Crime in the United States is published, some entities use the figures to compile rankings of cities and counties. These rough rankings provide no insight into the numerous variables that mold crime in a particular town, city, county, state, tribal area, or region. Consequently, they lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents.”
Also interesting–but Oh So Politically Incorrect, and therefore hidden–are the demographic make-up of those crime statistics. They were surreptitiously shared with me a decade ago–somebody risked their career–and are just mind blowing!
