I didn’t realize the Chamber was part of the staff.

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce is a voice of pro-business legislation at all levels of government. Leading the charge is our Government Affairs Committee, a group responsible for monitoring issues and providing opportunities for chamber members to be informed and engage with elected officials in an effort to improve the business climate. The group’s area of focus are: taxes & fees, transportation & infrastructure, labor & employment, intergovernmental cooperation, agriculture, healthcare, and education.
How is taking more money from the people spending money at local businesses “pro-business”. Citizens have less money to spend, even if it’s only $100 bucks a year (likely much more). Multiply that by the number of people spending money. More businesses will close as less money circulates in the free market. Bloomington will choose where to spend money – it won’t be where you would choose.
Yet, the Chamber claims they are pro-business.
If you are a member, WHY?
Read the first paragraph of the Chambers letter. Why are we still recovering? S-T-I-L-L ?
Obviously the Chamber has no grasp of economics or history. So again, if you are paying them money – WHY?
They also endorsed Amelia Buragas over Jeremy Kelly.

Seems everyone but the City Council is making policy.
Well at first I was upset, but then I read the letter and they included a call to commit to reducing the deficit by 50%. I felt so much better after reading that. After all, what politician has ever made a commitment and then gone back on it? Lower taxes in the future for sure!!!!
The CC is pro-BIG business. They just leave that out while fleecing small business.
They think TIFs equal success. How did the tax breaks work for Mittsubishi? They couldn’t do enough to cover the loss of Russia’s dollars abd rather than do some good old fashioned strategizing, they closed up shop. You can only blame the unions so much if your business model doesn’t move to hit the target. The sales tax hike is just going to kill small business and empty out more strip malls.
TIF’s originated in California in the 1970s (get the picture). They are now outlawed there because of the financial burden/crisis they caused.
If any state had a For Sale sign it would be California. I was surprised that Donald Trump didn’t make them an offer when they were trying to figure which bills to pay. They have some of most expensive cities to live in and some of most lucrative companies. Yet how many of said companies are making money on the back of the taxpayer? So much for putting money back into your business. I guess those private islands and opulent mansions don’t come cheap
Great information. Not surprising given theirrecord of supporting more liberal candidates.Mathey, Koos, on and on. The Chamber is 100% for the status quo. Whatever it is.
