CHICAGO (Oct. 24, 2016) — Starting at 7 p.m. tonight, three daily newspapers in Illinois will host online screenings of the new documentary “Madigan: Power, privilege, politics.” This 60-minute documentary takes an unprecedented look at the life and influence of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, one of the state’s most powerful political figures of all time. The documentary will be available to watch at the Northwest Herald’s website (nwherald.com), the website for the Herald-News in Joliet (theherald-news.com) and the DeKalb Daily Chronicle’s website (daily-chronicle.com). The documentary will be available to watch at these websites through 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Illinois is one of only 14 states without term limits, and this documentary highlights the influence an officeholder can wield in the absence of term limits. Madigan is the longest-serving House speaker in Illinois history and in the nation currently. He became an Illinois lawmaker in 1971 and has been speaker of the House in Illinois for all but two years since 1983. Since Madigan first became House speaker, Illinois has had six different governors, more than 200 state senators and more than 500 state representatives.

In addition to streaming online, “Madigan: Power, privilege, politics” is also screening this week at theaters in the Chicago suburbs and on TV downstate. Tickets for the movie theater screenings can be purchased at michaelmadigan.com.

  1. I just got this post after being out of town. I click on all there links, got to the page, but it would not load on any of them.

  2. I’ve heard this is really good…and eye opening. I’ve had co workers (ISU), who are quite liberal, who watched this and were absolutely appalled.

  3. The really scary part is that, ideologically, Mike Madigan is one of the most moderate Illinois elected Democrats. Anybody who replaces him will be much, much farther to the Loony Left, so be careful what you wish for.

      1. Madigan is a crook, no doubt, and I am no fan. But ideologically, he is probably the least hard Left of elected Illinois Democrats. His successor will be much worse, from a policy and philosophy standpoint. I’m disappointed you don’t see the validity of my comment.

        1. He hides and rarely does interviews. Everyday Democrats can’t see how bad he is. A loud left wing nut would shake voters enough to make DRASTIC changes in Illinois. Way too many people don’t know Madigan and his daughter are the problem.
