Normal’s spending tonight

By:  Diane Benjamin

Why is your money going to the Chamber of Commerce?  So they can buy an election when the Chamber endorses candidates?
MCLEAN CO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE     ANNUAL DUES   $2,172.00
MCLEAN CO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE    ANNUAL GALA    $1,000.00

Koos took a trip to Pittsburgh for the National League of Cities conference + the Council retreat cost more than $1000.  Almost that much went to Sister Cities International.

Does this REALLY say they spent $8700+ on an employee holiday luncheon?

And, United Way spending continues.

  1. What REALLY catches my eye is the gift cards from, Pub II, Medici, Home Depot!! Now HOW is this city business and are these cards going to people as gifts OR “grease money” on the QT?? There’s a LOT of grey area here as to where they go, who gets them and WHY!!
I guess IF you feed everyone who works for UPTOWN maybe it’s $8,000. Hopefully they had enough to take home-just like their pensions!

    1. Tax dollars are only to be spent for the function of government. I believe the State statute (Article VIII Section 2) says that. Unless someone challenges them in court, they will continue to spend like this. Good luck with Madigan’s office!!

      1. Bloomington passed an ordinance (which then makes it legal) to “donate” $25K/year for 5 years to the Capital Campaign for the History Museum which is a nonprofit. I’m sure there is no ordinance for Christmas parties. That spending would be considered illegal.

  2. Hey it was just small get together – It’s only money – you can’t take it with you so…. Oh..It’s not your money? The best part of 10K on a lunch? Are you kidding me?

  3. You also have some very expensive cab fare and a very generous per diem (over $55 per day). Even those “minor expenses” add up.
