Evacuate!

By:  Diane Benjamin

The Illinois Senate needed one Republican to vote with the Democrats to override Gov Rauner’s veto of the income tax hike.  They got one:  Dale Righter.

Madigan got MORE Republicans than he needed to pass the tax hike in the House – 15 of them.  (Including Bill Mitchell and Mike Unes from this area)

The Illinois GOP is obviously a useless stand-for-nothing party.

Every legislator who voted for the $36 billion budget and tax increase to fund it would fail to pass a basic common sense test:

The $36 billion budget is supposedly funded by $36 billion in revenue.  How does that pay down $15 billion past due?

Duh!

Even Common Core math says NOTHING is left over to pay down the humongous stack of past reckless spending bills.  So new money will pay old bills leaving the new bills unpaid!

This article is from February 2017:  http://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-illinois-madigan/

If claimed Illinois had $10 billion in unpaid bills.  That was FIVE months ago.   A billion a month was added because Mike Madigan allowed the courts to decide who got paid, not the people elected.

Oh the courts!  I wonder if any of the geniuses in Springfield know about this from Friday:    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-01/horrific-catastrophic-court-ruling-send-illinois-financial-abyss

. . . federal judge Joan Lefkow in Chicago ordered Illinois to come up with hundreds of millions of dollars it owes in Medicaid payments that state officials say the government doesn’t have, the Chicago Tribune reported. Judge Lefkow ordered the state to make $586 million in monthly payments (from the current $160 million) as well as another $2 billion toward a $3 billion backlog of payments – a $167 million increase in monthly outlays – the state owes to managed care organizations that process payments to providers.

What is the judge going to do when Illinois doesn’t pay?  A tax hike isn’t going to fix this since Madigan already spent it – bailing out Chicago!  Yep, that’s hidden in the bill none of our reps read or even had time to read before voting.

From the same story:

As a result of the court decision, “payments to the state’s pension funds; state payroll including legislator pay; General State Aid to schools and payments to local governments — in some combination — will likely have to be cut.”

Instead of cuts to keep Bloomington and Normal in the black, expect Renner and Koos to raise local taxes too!  Revenue will drop because the State is stealing more money from everybody who works.  People will have less money to spend locally, therefore less tax revenue will be generated.  Anybody understand basic economics in Blono?  Just wait until the schools raise taxes too!

The Technology and Manufacturing Association (TMA) issued a Press Release yesterday, the private sector isn’t lacking Common Sense like government:

“Knowing that Mike Madigan would never compromise, we have been heading towards this 32% permanent tax hike for months. In exchange, those paying these taxes got absolutely nothing in return,” said Dennis LaComb, Director of Government Relations for TMA. “We are simply dumping more money into a bloated government bureaucracy, money taken from hard-working Illinoisans and job creators who would have used that money to support their families, send their children to school, hire more employees, and grow our economy.”
.
After negotiating reforms for months, lawmakers scrapped all efforts at major reform and instead turned to their typical solution of taxing citizens and businesses more to paper over their inability to reign in the size of Illinois government. The tax increase (SB9) passed with bipartisan support, including 15 Republicans in the House and 1 Republican in the Senate who voted against their Party’s principles and the needs of taxpayers and manufacturers in their districts.
.

LaComb concluded: “It’s time these lawmakers grew a spine and refused to override Rauner’s veto. This is the only way to force Democrats back to the negotiating table to secure much-needed structural reforms that support a manufacturing sector that is ready to thrive once again. Without these reforms, the exodus across state lines will intensify.”

Since the Democrats are even more useless than the Republicans, run for the border while you still can!

  1. Bloomington already has a Madiganesque budget for FY2018, complete with a structural deficit. In the near future, bonds will be issued for the capital improvement plan and road repair. A revenue source is needed to guarantee the ability to repay the bonds. The library has already reported a needed property tax increase for the expansion. Local taxes to support the lack of funding for schools will also increase.
