Maybe THIS is Tari’s excuse:

By:  Diane Benjamin

The following Press Release was sent today by the City of Bloomington.  It has a couple of problems though!

Who gave Tari the award?

Did he award himself in his hotel room?  I predict a GLOWING Pantagraph article!

MAYOR RECEIVES AMBASSADOR OF GOODWILL CITIZENSHIP AWARD
One of many highlights of recent Sister Cities trip

BLOOMINGTON, IL– Mayor Tari Renner received the Ambassador of Goodwill Citizenship Award during the recent Bloomington-Normal trip to Sister City Asahikawa, Japan. Former B-N Sister Cities Chairperson Harriet Steinbach also received the award.

“It is my honor and privilege to accept the Ambassador of Goodwill Citizenship Award. I was especially humbled to receive the award in Asahikawa, Bloomington-Normal’s Sister City for the past 55 years,” explains Mayor Renner. “The award ceremony was one of many highlights of this trip, which benefits Bloomington greatly by creating cultural, educational, and information exchanges and promoting lifelong relationships between people and communities.”

The delegation to Asahikawa included over 35 people from a variety of backgrounds. In addition to the official anniversary ceremony, the group visited various locations and met with local officials. This trip happens approximately every ten years.

“This was a worthwhile experience for the entire group,” says Mayor Renner. “I look forward to hosting a delegation from Japan here in Bloomington-Normal at some point in the future, as we have previously. As I understand it, during the course of our Sister Cities relationship with Asahikawa, our communities have exchanged approximately 300 students for a full academic year and 1,000 for shorter stays. It truly is a wonderful partnership.”
The Bloomington-Normal Sister Cities Committee is an official committee of the City of Bloomington and Town of Normal. Its purpose is to further international relations and goodwill between the Bloomington-Normal communities and cities like Asahikawa in accordance with the People to People Program initiated by the U.S. State Department.

  1. That’s a nice award. The award is political in nature and reflects the hospitality central to the Japanese culture. Renner accepted the award as Mayor but any mayor who had attended the 55th anniversary would have received it.

  2. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man…that’s FUNNY. Maybe his personal attacks on you could be engraved on the award.

Also glad Nora finally had some work to do.

Tari says he’s “humbled”…….I doubt he’s ever been “humbled.”

  3. Diane – Let’s light up the comments section when this press release is posted on the Pantagraph’s website. Wonder if the Pantagraph will disable the comments to protect Our Dear Leader.

  4. Great job Nora! So good to have people like you on the city payroll increasing our pension debt. Don’t forget to post it on Facebook or do you need an assistant to do that for you?

  5. Kim Jong-un probably has the same award on his wall also. It’s good to see Nora has SOMETHING to do !! Wonder WHAT bad will ambassador gets?
Maybe we can hang it in his office and frame it and sell it as art..

  6. Oh look. Nora had something to do, one day in a row. Marvelous.

The malignant narcissist does not need to be encouraged. If only the Japanese knew what he is really like.

    1. Ha. The award was made before Renner arrived. From some of the photos on the SC FB page he made a fool of himself–a perfect ambassador for the ugly American.

  7. “The Bloomington-Normal Sister Cities Committee is an official committee of the City of Bloomington and Town of Normal. Its purpose is to further international relations and goodwill between the Bloomington-Normal communities and cities like Asahikawa in accordance with the People to People Program initiated by the U.S. State Department.”

This is what is going to get us. They will say that Tari’s GF is a member of the committee and was on official business of the City.

  8. My first thought and final thought, a waste of taxpayer money. I’ve asked this before what value does this bring to the community other than politician’s using it for a free vacation?

  9. Good God Almighty! They take these free un needed vacations at tax payer expense and than give themselves awards on top of it?

  10. Let me get this straight. A Japanese auto company screwed us by pulling out of BloNo after having enjoyed a lot of incentives ( rotten SOB’s) and Mayor Renner gets a award! Isn’t that special! Yes, I know he award was for the anniversary and any monkey serving as Mayor would of received it, but I would think most monkeys would of told the Japanese to keep their award or send a plane. We are hurting too much to be spending taxpayer money on frivolous spending like this.
