BHS needs a WHITE Student Union

Nikita Richards wants to be the next McLean County Clerk,

She evidently wants to divide people.  See the post below from her personal Facebook page.

How did BHS ever survive until 2018 without a Black Student Union?

Why stop there?  Short people need their own student union.  Natural blonds need one too, people who dye their hair aren’t allowed in because obviously they are different.  Students who live west of Mercer need a union too, certainly they have their own struggles.  Do Hispanics need one too? If everybody else has one, why not whites?  Since many kids are of mixed ethnicity, they all need their own!

Nikita:  What happened to “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”   (1963)

Nikita, your daughter is obviously successful and prospering.  She must have great character to be elected by her peers class president.

How does purposely building walls based on color further MLK’s dream?   How does segregating herself help your daughter prepare for the future?

Is the goal separate but equal?

Are you running for McLean County Clerk to build more walls?

  1. Clearly the focus of BHS is not on education as we can see from the articles in the last two weeks. Maybe a Student Union would be a good place to start?

  2. I have a dream becomes a nightmare in the hands of those who misuse greatness as their own way of stoking fires that others are trying to extinguish!

  3. O. M. G. If you think whites and black are on an equal footing and that a black student union needs a white student union to counter it…you need an empathy pill. And where does it say a white person or a Hispanic person can’t join the BSU to work toward mutually agreed to goals? I mean…wow.

    1. They same reason they called it a BSU when it was at BHS in the 60’s!!! Same reason there is a BSU at ISU, and has always served a great purpose in our community. You would know if you were familiar with Bloomington Normal. There you go again…after what someone’s CHILD does. You should be ashamed. Leave people’s kids alone!

      1. Child was immaterial compared to mommy’s attitude. Her daughter seems like a wonderful kid being sent on some agenda her mom is pushing. What purpose do those student groups serve that are only organized by race? Are conservatives allowed to join or just others?

      2. Why don’t have a child ask if they can join? And you are smart enough to do your own research on the benefits of a BSU. You still have no right posting this regardless of your opinion which definitely do not reflect our community. But speak to your people. They will buy it.

      3. I’m actually glad you went this low. It brings out your weakness to the whole community. So bothered by a high school BSU, and wanting a White student union. Posting pictures of a someone child again…cause that is all you have. You know what you did? What you really did is highlight a bigger problem with people like you. Those who feel they have no boundaries when trying to convince others that you are right. You may think you have done some sort of damage but you only made yourself look worse.

      4. You have the hardest time staying on task don’t you? We are at you wanting a White Student Union cause some high school kids got together and wanted to start a BSU. Stay the course Diane.

      5. So who said white wasn’t ok? Is that something you believe? That a BSU means white is not ok? Lol! Stop it. You are doing the old Diane reaching again. How about this. If you want to convey the message that you think a BSU means white isn’t ok, just say that. Don’t go posting pictures of this child and doing extra. Just stick to your message. Without the use of peoples kids.

        1. Ask Nikita why she thinks segregating by race is okay, please report back. I see you are still avoiding the questions about what purpose is served by doing so especially if everybody must think alike. You didn’t answer if conservatives are welcome too!

      6. You know keep bashing Nikita. That’s what you do. I’m not here to fight that cause it’s free speech for all. But the kids and what they do have no place in your blog, or your madness. That’s not becoming of you, not Christ like, and not wanted in our community. If your are going to be a news source that is representing Bloomington Normal, make sure you do it on a grown professional level. Kids are not allowed in any discussion. No matter what you call yourself trying to prove.

      7. So do as you say huh master? How about I don’t have to answer you because it’s a free country. You seriously threatened to ban me for not answering you and arguing with you? When you get done with your “decision” let’s remember I am not saying anything that isn’t true. Which is why the post was removed.

      8. Here is the very first comment I made since you have selectively forgotten

        1. 60’s? I wasn’t here in the 60’s, so I have no idea. I was in a 2000 kid very integrated high school though and we didn’t need one. Maybe we didn’t think playing the race card was worth it.

      9. Oh yeah!! Did you know they also had a riot! So there is much about Bloomington Normal you don’t know about.

      10. Am I trying to stir up something by letting you know the history of Bloomington? No. You talked about why your town didn’t have a BSU because they didn’t play the race card and I showed you that race was a factor so much so the students rioted.

      11. Posting her daughters picture is a bad thing. That’s why the post was removed so I’m good with that. I know if News Happening thought it was bad enough to take down then many others must have shared that same opinion. Have a good one Diane.

      12. It shouldn’t have come to that. But if she felt it had to come down because of someone posting it then she did what she felt was best.

  4. A white student union would obviously be racist. A black student union is progressive. Similar to the congressional black caucus. Odd that Tim Scott wasn’t allowed to be in the CBC though. Not sure why.

  5. Good work! Hope all students take advantage of the BSU.

It does not take much to start a club besides student interest and a sponsor/coach/teacher. Starting a WSU would be 100% possible… but I would rather have my child create a SU.

I know many public school also have a Christian Athletic “Union.”
    https://www.fca.org/

Good to see students have a choice in clubs…as consumers of knowledge choice is good much like in capitalism.

    1. Yes, it is good to have choices in clubs. Clubs that take into account different interests or philosophies. Whether it’s Christian athletes, chess club, band, Sports, any other club you can think of mama those groups are going to have similar interest from the members

But not clubs that Focus solely on somebody’s race. Unless you think that all black people think alike.

      1. Social construction of reality (also social concept) examines the development of jointly constructed understandings of the world that forms the basis for shared assumptions about reality…think religion, law, race, gender (not confused with sex), art, etc.

Philosophy – the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline.

Hence BSU is 100% appropriate…even if the focus is 100% race. Keep in mind that ALL students can be part of the BSU.

Would a JSU (Jewish Student Union) be equally appalling? In 1980 the U.S. supreme court ruled that Jews are a race.
        http://jsu.org/about-us/

Picking and choosing which clubs are allowed because the “social construct” for which the club exists is considered “offensive” is laughable for freedom loving Americans.

I remember reading somewhere that folks have an unalienable right to assemble (student club)… from God (social construct…j/k).

Last time I heard so much whining over clubs was at ISU…it was the liberals crowd crying foul over some conservative (social construct) club (assembly). It had to do with cookies.

      2. there shouldn’t be any student unions that are based on race. Whether it be black, Jewish, Latino, Etc. There should be one student union that represents everybody at school.

Now, if you want to have an after-school Club that discusses black issues, or religious issues, or whatever, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

  6. FYI, I am a racist so my barber says. I only bought white Girl Scout cookies from him and no chocolate/dark cookies. I told him he put the chocolate/dark cookies behind the white cookies so he’s the racist. There should have been an equal representation on the display table. Not only that the sign was predominantly white with black letters. I asked him why the sign wasn’t predominantly black with white letters. Something he should consider next year. In addition the display table was all white. I mean what is up with that to sway customers. I told him I wanted an account of how many white vs chocolate.dark cookies sold. Maybe next year he should put a limit on white cookies being offered to be more fair and equitable.

  7. Someone ‘uses’ their own child online. Ok

Someone questions topic of same post, not child. They went low!

    Give me a break.

    1. Well something we can agree on. But even if she didn’t that doesn’t give you the right to post about her child. Like I said take the words without the picture. You put her child on your blog.

      1. Well your opinion may not be hers and if you put it on your page with the parents permission then so be it. But we know you didn’t. Changes everything.

      2. It doesn’t change a darn thing. You put it out there for the public to see its public record. And besides, if a mother is proud of her daughter fostering racism in the school, that’s something that really needs to be called out

      3. Well as you see on this post by the comments made by others we definitely don’t see it as fostering racism. But to each his own.

      4. you have a club at school that is based solely on the race of the people in it. How is that not fostering racism? If a white kid wanted a white Student Union, all hell would be raised

      5. Because anyone can join! That’s how it doesn’t foster racism. And until you know the content of what the club talks about, how can you say it is doing that?

      6. You know if you are really interested I bet you could ask your child to join and become a parent volunteer. As I am sure other parents will be involved as well. Here’s a link to our current BSU at ISU…I’m sure the high school one will mirror it.

      7. If a white kid can join the black student union, what would be the point of that? Are they going to talk about white issues? If they are, then just call at the Student Union.

Besides, you have yet to say what Grand purpose a black student union serves?

      8. It’s no different than the local fraternities and sororities that are black but have white pledges. They all do.

      9. And I answered that question with a response of do your own research. Google/Siri/got to a BSU meeting…whatever you feel is necessary to get the answers to what purpose it serves.

      10. See, that’s the problem with people like you. You can never back up your point of view. Telling somebody to Google it is not an argument. It’s plain lazy.

      11. I said attend a BSU meeting!! Why I feel something is important or what purpose I get from something is not shared by you so why would I try to convince you about what we both already know to be true? If you care, find out. If you don’t care why is it any issue?

      12. Again, You’re just showing yourself to be lazy. If you don’t have the ability to backup your point, then maybe you don’t have a point at all.

      13. Reliving the 60’s, nobody wants to do that but the BSU survived the 60’s so the fact that it existed back in the 60’s is just something I was using to demonstrate we have always had one. I don’t remember when exactly it stopped. But that was just to show you this isn’t new.

      14. Dawglf ok, I’m lazy. Let’s just leave it at that. Since it’s your question that you want an answer to. I’ll take the lazy for you.

      15. If you don’t want to relive the 1960s, then why create a group that had prominence in the 1960s that was reminder of the racial tension back then.
