The Koos auto accident report

By:  Diane Benjamin

It was just a couple of days ago when I reported the Town of Normal paid $2,655.49 for repairs to the Mayor’s car.   https://blnnews.com/2018/02/18/normals-twice-a-month-fleece/

I REALLY appreciate the fast responses I get from Normal!

The accident happened in Normal’s award-winning roundabout.  Koos was driving a 2012 Mitsubishi Mi-EV, owned by the Town of Normal.  It looks something like this:

The other driver was in a 2012 Chevy Equinox.  She failed to yield when entering the roundabout, she claimed she didn’t see Koos.  She smashed into the front right fender/side headlight.  She was ticketed.

The police report says she had insurance.  Why did the Town of Normal pay for repairs when the accident wasn’t Koos’s fault?  Maybe her insurance company paid Normal and then Normal paid the repair shop.

FOIA requests are only for documents, not for questions.  We will never know unless somebody asks.  Evidently the repairs to a light pole (reported in the story above) had nothing to do with this accident.

See the police report HERE

I also FOIA’s all Council W-2’s.  Normal doesn’t think I’m entitled to that information, they are wrong.  If I have to file with the Attorney General, I will.

If they posted a Total Compensation report like Bloomington, I wouldn’t have to ask:     http://www.cityblm.org/Home/ShowDocument?id=12646

  1. So typical. The Mitsubishi Mi-EV was universally panned by the automotive press as one of the WORST cars in 20 years–read some reviews. It just figures that the Town of Normal would own one (or 2 or 3), and that Koos would drive it.

  2. Even some people who have to try and SELL MIEVs have told me they would never buy one. Once I was offered one as a courtesy car and I refused it, said I would rather be car less for the day than drive a MIEV, that guy said he completely understood as well. Of course the Town of Normal jumped right on the MIEVs, and yes Koos should bike EVERYWHERE unless it is really snowy and icy, I’ll give him a break on those days – on those days he can putt about in his little MIEV, well, if it will navigate the conditions that is…
