Will Bloomington pass a Welcoming Ordinance?

By:  Diane Benjamin

Social media is full of outrage over Normal passing the “Welcoming Ordinance”.  The Pantagraph turned off comments to their story.

Is Bloomington next?

Will LEGAL immigrant Alderman Mboka Mwilambwe cave?  Will Alderman Karen Schmidt approve an ordinance like Normal’s that does nothing other than empower the radicals?

We know the supporters will be out in force.  Tari Renner won’t tame them like Chris Koos did.  City Council meetings will turn into a circus.

If you want your voice heard, emails and phone calls aren’t enough.  Be at City Hall at 5:30 Monday:

  1. WHAT part of ILLEGAL don’t this mayor AND council understand?? WHY can’t they FOCUS on more PRESSING issues? Like STREETS, fees, taxes, GARBAGE, etc.

  2. The last rally Regina “I love the Confederate Flag” Noland organized at city hall (blue lives matter?) attracted so few people it was barely noteworthy. Not holding my breath for this one. Do better, Regina. And remember, the Confederate Flag represents the LOSING side.

      1. First of all, wrong “their.” Multiple media reports said around a dozen. That’s “a lot?” And…I was there, too. I happened to be inside city hall taking care of some business and watched and waited for more people to show. I can count. You were nearly outnumbered by the media! So, don’t BS me.

      2. How’d last night’s protest turn out? Break into double digit attendance? Thought so. Was there again last night…and I can still count.

        1. I wasn’t there, so I don’t know. Two people spoke at public comment, but then numbers don’t matter if laws matter. If the Council wants to pretend they can usurp federal law to please the open borders crowd, they will.

  3. Anyone who speaks against the Ordinance is publically called a racist by the activists. Those who oppose are threatened and bullied on social media.
Renner and the other supporters vocalize their belief that voting in favor of the ordinance is doing the “right thing” meaning opposition must be wrong.

    1. Does it ever get cold on the moral high-ground, Tari? Wonder if illegals will be welcomed in Tari’s neighborhood? You would think so, given his support.

  4. People against the ordinance saw what happened to the people who didn’t want bike lanes down Washington St. – they were paraded and harassed all over social media, leftists showed up at their houses to vandalize and shout obscenities at their kids. This is how Tari plays. This is how the left works, and this is what we have to get comfortable with if we’re going to stop them.

    1. That’s why I call the BIKE BLONO crowd “ISIS On the Prairie”. Some members are basically terrorists.

    2. This is why no sane people are willing to run for elected office or voice a different opinion. Tari and his comrades will vilify anyone that dares to even question them.

    3. Maggie, your street is next. Haven’t you seen the bicyclists carrying simitars checking it out? BTW…can anyone share the police report for the vandalism and harassment incidents? Waiting. Thank you.

      1. I certainly can, Rich. But so can you. It’s all public record. Including the “in person” meeting Tari held with one of the harassed residents and the BikeBlono people. In fact, there’s even VIDEO of that discussion. You’re welcome.

  5. I oppose the Welcoming ordinance that was recently passed by my mayor and his cronies. The law says if you don’t enter the USA properly your an illegal alien, period. No candy coating.

Sure my relatives came her from other countries. My mother’s parents from Ireland through Ellis Island and they were sponsored by relatives in Peoria. My father’s grandfather came from England through Ellis Island and his mother’s family settled in America back in the early 1700’s with the Pennsylvania Dutch, fighting in our revolutionary war. They all came here legally.

    1. Big difference back then, they worked and appreciated the opportunity to be here legally. We got no problem with that!

  6. Imlibe in Chicago and support the Sanctuary bill. it is your business to disagree ,but it is no your business to slander or endanger anyone lives.

  7. I need to edit my statement. I live in Chicago and am active in the movement and people you want to hurt. It is your business if you disagree, but you have no right to slander anyone or endanger others who you disagree with

    1. No one wants to hurt anyone, we just want the rule of law to be respected. It’s that “illegal” thing that you refuse to acknowledge. So get your story straight. Spreading lies doesn’t help your cause. Legal immigrants are welcome.

      1. LEGALS are welcome 100%. Yes it is difficult, yes, it takes some time and effort, but millions have done it in the past and many many more are in the process – it is NOT “fair” that ILLEGALS are favored over those who are following the rules. What is it about that that you leftists/open borders people can not understand? Also, how do you justify and even revere the laws of OTHER countries where becoming a citizen is even harder, in fact, in some places nearly impossible, but you disparage the USA? You guys are always yelling about compassion and “fairness” where is your compassion and fairness for those here LEGALLY and those in the process of becoming LEGAL?

    2. 2skipper–the issue in Bloomington is that the supporters of the Welcoming ordinance are the ones who are slandering those who do not support the ordinance. The local activists are vilifying them by labeling them as racist–even harassing business owners and their place of business. They are not practicing the “inclusion” or protection they demand. They are promoting divisiveness. Those in opposition are “fearful” of practicing their First Amendment right to voice their opinion because of the bullying by groups of activists against individual citizens.
There is no need for a Welcoming ordinance in Bloomington. There are no statistics to support the need. The State laws provide for all the protections. Creating “special” laws to protect an isolated group of people is contrary to “equal protection under the law” and jeopardizes the validity of all laws.

    3. 2skipper….actually, the only ones doing the “hurting” are the politicians who are PANDERING to one population in order to gain NOTHING but votes. They don’t actually CARE about any of these immigrants. They want votes. If they cared, they’d STOP encouraging people to come here illegally….and making it smoother for people to immigrate LEGALLY. THAT’S compassion.

  8. Speaking of handcuffs, why arent the city council members being handcuffed and jailed for break the federal laws? Guess they dont apply to mayors and council members, just us poor folks! Why should We the People obey laws when the Mayor and Council are allowed to blatantly disregard laws?
