Does Grossinger regret buying naming rights yet?

By:  Diane Benjamin

Maybe the City can compensate Grossinger for all the bad publicity by giving them naming rights to the Ice Center.  Pepsi quit paying for it YEARS ago, but even in meeting documentation Parks and Rec still calls it Pepsi Ice Center.  I bet Pepsi loves it – free advertising!  Monday night this is on the agenda – at least it’s free:

Grossinger Motors Arena will suck up even more of your money Monday so non-existent events are ADA compliant.  Let’s go back a year ago first.  The council spent $571,875 to make the sidewalks ADA compliant:

The story and letter from Lisa Madigan are in this story: https://blnnews.com/2017/08/28/dumping-dollars-downtown/

Monday the Council gets to dump another  $610,500 into Grossinger Motors Arena to complete ADA requirements.  That doesn’t include the engineering costs to plan it.

All of these problems were caused by how it was built.  Don’t ever forget who voted for this train-wreck:

Maybe Mike Matejka started Not In Our Town to protect himself!

  1. Diane – I got banned from commenting in the lying Pantagraph for pointing out Matejka’s treachery to the voters and taxpayers of Bloomington. Sorry “Tax Hike” Mike, no amount of supposed good deeds you attempt to do now will ever get back the millions of dollars wasted on the Coliseum… then and in the future. I guess short term profits for his union members outweigh the long term good of the community.

    1. The Pantagraph blocked me on FaceBook. They don’t like comrades who disagree. They do cover Mike Matejka, Jenn Carillo and Sonny Garcia well and we are expected to agree…or you will be blocked or comments are shut down completely. I guess that is what a free press means. I just send articles from the Pantagraph to their sponsors. I don’t even have to use my own words. I use theirs.

  2. To answer your headline question, Diane–They certainly WILL regret it if enough potential and former customers bluntly tell them they will not do business with them because of their involvement with that tax money sucking disaster. I already have.

  3. Would anyone here want to have their name associated with failure? It’s no wonder no one is scrambling to purchase naming rights. VenueWorks isn’t doing anything worthy of promoting this monstrosity. A handful of student interns could do better. AND you could get them for free or pay them minimum wage,,,then for housing let them move in with Nikita, Sonny, or Mike Matejka or whatever his name is.

  4. No more money on the coliseum. Sell off the parts. Tear it down and put the money we are losing against the debt. At least the debt would be going down instead of money being wasted each year throwing good money after bad.
