Why is the sign still there?

By:  Diane Benjamin

The YWCA hasn’t stood for Young Women’s Christian Association since 2015:   https://www.ywca.org/about/history/

Instead of removing the “Christian” sign, the local affiliate put a new sign in front of it.

Since the Mission Statement doesn’t fit the brick sign, it needs to be removed!  I’m sure they wouldn’t want to confuse anyone.

  1. Kind of an oxymoron when you think about it. Their NEW stance is basically the opposite of what their old mission was-to a certain point. Now it’s just a place for women with a loud voice to scream their demands..
They need to go back to the Christian stance.. Kind of hard when you’re atheist or agnostic, etc though..

Uh, the “new” sign has been there for almost 10 years. What is the big deal? There are more important things to worry about than their name change.

  3. I thought there was some historical significance to the old brick sign so it couldn’t be removed…that’s why they covered it with a board in the past. Their mission statement is a lie.

  4. In 2015 the YWCA was considered a Christian sisterhood. The name was changed so that other religions would not be offended. This is a free country why can’t those that are offended start their own group yw_____a, you fill in the blank with whatever your beliefs are and continue to do the great works that the original YWCA has been doing for years. Removing the word Christian from a historic and yes Christian based organization bothers me and I believe would bother most Christians if they were aware of what has happened. Just another indicator of where America is headed. How sad!
