Atlanta Library is falling apart!

By:  Diane Benjamin

The library in Atlanta Il is in an adorable historic building:

Keep in mind while looking at the pictures below, the Atlanta Library Board was about to pay a Board member $200,000 for a different building (they didn’t need) when citizen watchdogs stopped them.

Meanwhile they are ignoring the condition of this building!  I’m told the roof is now leaking too.

While this beautiful historic building is allowed to decay, Atlanta officials are busy ticketing other property owners for ordinance violations on their properties.

Equal Justice?

This pictures shows pieces of the crumbling chimney thrown in a flowerbed:

A window was replaced making no effort to match it with the other windows:

Obvious ignored maintenance:

Another obvious lack of maintenance:

The Clock Tower doesn’t work:

There are lots of other examples, I only posted a few.   This is more proof the Library Board isn’t doing their job.

Taxpayers of Atlanta need to visit the site for themselves.

Your iconic building is rotting while the Board fiddles.

  1. I learned photography from an OLD TIME Atlanta resident (now deceased) he would be speechless IF he saw this, as he was rather proud of his small town and the “historic” sights like the old fairgrounds, Funks Grove, and Gold Springs. To mention a few.

  2. Hmm! I smell another grant and a capital campaign to raise more money for this board to again mis manage. There is no way the taxpayers can afford 3 aging buildings. They had over 300 signatures asking the board not to take Bill Thomas’ building and they thumbed their nose at the people who pay the bills because they needed to bail themselves out of their continued criminal activity. Add this to the debt the city has us in and they might need to rename our little town to Swampville. I heard city Council was interesting last night as well.

  3. Oh! How could we forget! The library just voted to put a new furnace and air plus carpet in Bills Building! Seems like they are clueless on how to prioritize building repairs.. the board clearly struggles with what their fiduciary responsibilities are to the taxpayers. But then again so does city Hall they can’t even give us consumable water!

  4. Let’s not forget they borrowed $125,000 in 2013-2014 for “construction expenses on library”. We taxpayers are still paying for their last renovation!

    1. With only two small $$ checks s written for work completed…while the rest was transferred out to other library/Palm’s grill & personal accounts!!!
