Since criminals don’t care about laws, (why they are called criminals) passing laws to restrict the gun rights of people who have never shot anyone will do nothing to curb violence.
Tari Renner had to chime in:
Mayor Tari Renner said the National Rifle Association is dividing the country with a phony argument that the government wants to take away guns from law-abiding people.
“As long as you’re a responsible gun owner, nobody is going to touch your gun,” said Renner.
“The NRA is lying, and that’s one of the most absurd things that’s dividing our country.”
“We have fights over something that the rest of the world does not fight over. We fight over guns, gays, and global warming, and nobody else does,” Renner told the group of about 70 people who gathered on the steps of the McLean County Museum of History.
If you listen to what Democrats say, they ALWAYS accuse the opposition of exactly what they are guilty of! Yes Tari, Democrats would pass laws banning all guns if we didn’t have the 2nd Amendment! Look no further than Chicago. Many people die in Chicago from guns for two reasons: 1) Criminals don’t care about laws and 2) Law abiding citizens find it almost impossible to defend themselves with a gun.
If gun laws worked Chicago would be the safest City in the country.

None of these “fights” happened until progressives decided to tell people what to believe. They have over-reached and will pay a price for it.

So we should do away with ALL laws, especially laws against murder because criminals don’t care about laws. Pretty faulty logic you’re pushing there. Canada which has the same amount of gun ownership as us has common sense gun regulation. They don’t have the gun violence the US has, so your contention is flat out wrong.
Silly girl! Canada has far fewer people. We have hundreds of millions of guns that have never shot anybody. We don’t need laws, there are already plenty that nobody enforces. The left doesn’t want people going to prison, how long do gun offenders get in Chicago? A year or two? There is no reason for criminals to fear the law since pansies aren’t throwing the book at them. I bet you think bail isn’t necessary either. Start locking up anybody with an illegal gun or who commits a crime with a gun for decades and violence will decrease.

When was the last time you were in Chicago? I bet it was a long time ago. Chicago is a large city with large city problems. “Homicides dropped by 15 percent in 2018 and shootings by 18 percent.” According to the Chicago Sun Times. Also the article stated “Research has showed much of the difference is due to the size of Chicago’s illegal gun market, which is much bigger than in New York or Los Angeles because Chicago is bordered by states with lax gun laws”.
So gun laws DO matter, just like ALL laws matter. Your emotional and fact free statement lacks logic and common sense.

The ‘criminals don’t follow laws’ argument is shorthand for “Criminals won’t follow new laws any more than they obey old laws, and whatever bad thing that happened is already illegal, probably on multiple levels, so the goal you’re working towards is not ‘saving lives’, it’s ‘making yourself look good’. You’re not being noble or caring, you’re being selfish.”
There are some laws that are universal to all societies – no murder and no stealing. From there, one Should do a cost-benefit analysis on anything else. Adjectives like ‘common sense’ or anything else are just marketing one should look at what a law Does. In this case, any proposed laws have much greater cost than benefit. Benefits are minimal (unless you’re a politician, narcissist, or would-be tyrant) as 99+% of the purported benefits can be achieved by enforcing existing law. Costs are significant loss of rights, freedom, in some cases property, and in rare cases life, to those who obey the law, plus whatever administrative costs there may be.
Given that guns are used in self defense a lot more than most people realize, it’s possible that new laws will actually result in a net Loss of life.
Let’s get something straight… Criminals do not care about gun laws – Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the nation and……. well you know the story? Hundreds of gun deaths every year from criminals who don’t buy guns legally. But let’s get to the real reason, we will not give up our right to bear arms. We (and I am included) fear the government more than criminals. Yes, I said it… I fear the government taking away my rights to everything I hold dear (including my life). And is this fear justified? You tell me… we just ended 2 YEARS of the mainstream media, the liberal elites, the Democratic Party and the deep state trying to remove a duly elected president of the United States from office with a completely fabricated HOAX. I will keep my gun because I fear my government & people like you, who will help them in any way you can to sell our freedoms and our republic to those who would oppress us.
All the laws you support only penalize and intentionally try to make legal gun owners criminals and do NOTHING to curb gun violence.

Criminals Don’t Care About Laws.
This defines the demon-rats as the group that they have allowed themselves to become, as they have taken up the socialist ideals of previous fail. The law of the land, the Constitution of the United States of America is immaterial to them unless it serves their purpose. The big money influencers that control this party have been so crooked for so many years it is imperative to them that they take the guns from the people so that they can then take everything else. Our wealth, our freedom, our life. As our founders were specific about an intention of the 2nd Amendment was to defend ourselves from the tyranny of government. We The People thank the Founders for establishing the Declaration of Independence and sacrificing their lives to establish this sovereign nation, the good old USA.

A True ‘March for Our Lives’ would have gone for a few blocks and ended with a gun safety class. But we all know that’s not really what they were marching about…

Also laws against illegal immigrants would have to go by the wayside, since laws don’t matter. We could then go on and make murder legal and stealing your property by anyone totally lawful. Whether you want to waste time or not, your central thesis is stupid and totally unworkable. To believe what you wrote, you’d have to suspend all critical thinking and common sense. Just because the rates in Chicago dropped.doesn’t mean they are acceptable. They would be a lot lower if the good people could shoot back. They can’t afford their own personal cops like Rahm.

In the past couple years, we have seen the beginnings of Leftwing political violence in this community. It will only get worse. Return to a Democrat president with a THUG Attorney General like Eric Holder, and our lives will literally be in danger.
I think the Left should embrace the second amendment. Considering that you have a President that calls journalists the “enemy of the people” and can’t bring himself to condemn white nationalists who want to get rid of Jews, Muslims, Gays, Transgenders and anyone who isn’t “American Enough”, and encourages people to rough up protestors at his rallies, it’s the perfect time to carry a piece. And Republicans and Conservatives who are the self-professed champions of preventing government cheer him on gleefully. So when marching for gay rights, they should open carry should the law allow it. When marching for fair housing, bring out the AR-15s. Nothing wrong with using your rights under the second amendment.

I would like to point out that New Zealand had a very good Gun Owners requirements. And yes people that slaughter other people do not pay any attention to laws. In New Zealand, the way I understand it, if you wanted to own a Semi-Automatic Rifle, you first had to allow for a on site home inspection to make certain you had the approved gun safe to keep it in, among other stipulations. Most of these weapons in Gang hands are stolen from somewhere, but like Las Vegas and Newtown, Ct, these weapons came from the home of the owners. My contention is that if you must own one of these, then you also must keep it in a gun safe with a combination type locking mechanism. This would at least decrease the stolen weapons getting into Gang hands. Please do not read more into this than what I stated as that is exactly meant.

Well from what has been said about these weapons that you can fire them almost as fast as a automatic rifle, but when you do it is next to impossible to hold them on target. Not sure where you keep your loaded at all times AR, is it in bed with you? I hope there are not any children down the hall in the direction you might be shooting in.

Who can pull a trigger at 350 rounds per minute? Fully automatic rifles fire at a rate that is impossible to replicate with your trigger finger. The extension of your argument would legitimize the banning of all semi-automatic weapons (automatic pistols are semi-automatic as apposed to revolvers). FYI: We (Patriots) will not ever allow people like you (who have never fired an AR-15 or a gun at all) tell us how they operate and if we can own them. Get over it…. The 2nd Amendment is not going away.

Okay now take your time and read carefully, no where did I mention anything about TAKING YOUR GUNS! That is So NRA. What it should mean is that if you OWN one of these AR imitation types of a weapon, it should be required by LAW that it be kept LOCKED UP. Is that to complicated for you?
We need to refine some areas regarding firearms. Confiscation ? Give me one good reason to turn in my guns? However should someone be allowed to have an assault rifle in their vehicle and 5 or 10 fully charged 30 shot magazines ? Pistols are a problem, now large cartridge capacity, combat calibers that can do considerable collateral damage are everywhere. Some states have open carry laws, where people can carry a gun openly, and only cops can carry a concealed weapon. Here in Illinois, we could do something like that on a county by county basis. We need to use more common sense and less emotion in dealing with this issue and we need to build more prisons, and we all need to be lobbyists.
“Confiscation” Are you referring to my comment on AR type or look like weapons? No where did I use that word or even suggest it. But the NRA uses it as a dramatic way to get their union members all riled up. As far as I know, bump stocks are just now being made illegal to own or use. No where is anyone saying you must give up the weapon that the bump stock fits, just the bump stock its self. Now I don’t care if you do or don’t have one, but if you do and that weapon gets stolen and you fail to make a report of it to the police, and it is used in a crime, why do you feel that you should not be held to some kind of responsibility for it getting into the wrong hands?

I guess you would be right, I haven’t heard it put in those exact words, but I believe this bump stock ban came in after Trump? This ban if by federal law I believe. And the ban has been careful to never say anything about confiscating any complete weapons. And what can Illinois Democrats or Republicans do to take YOUR guns? It is our American 2nd Amendment Right, and one State or a dozen can not change that.
Nothing stops them from.trying! Oh, the NRA.
