Wait Till You See What the National Education Association Is Up To
Read these “New Business Items” just passed by the NEA, and see if you believe the NEA honors its Code of Ethics:
- “The NEA vigorously opposes all attacks on the right to choose and stands on the fundamental right to abortion under Roe v. Wade.”
- “The NEA will immediately call on the Trump administration, U.S. Senate, the House of Representatives, and the courts, for the immediate end to the detention and criminalization of immigrant children and their families; including an end to ICE raids.”
- “The NEA will call on the U.S. government to accept responsibility for the destabilization of Central American countries (including, but not limited to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua), and that this destabilization is a root cause of the recent increase of asylum seekers in the United States.”
- “NEA will collaborate and partner with organizations and individuals who are doing the work to push reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans in the United States.”
- “The National Education Association will organize and mobilize in support of the Equality Act to be a top legislative priority.”
- “NEA will incorporate the concept of ‘White Fragility’ into NEA trainings/staff development, literature, and other existing communications on social, gender, LGBTQIA, and racial justice.” (“White fragility” is a racist leftist term invented to mock, criticize, and silence colorless people who disagree with the assumptions of Critical Race Theory. The term embodies the false idea that disagreement with the racist views of social justice warriors is motivated by fear.)
- NEA “… will recommend specific annual numeric goals for the recruitment of, and retention of, educators of color.” (In other words, the NEA will judge educators by the color of their skin.)
- “NEA will promote the Black Lives Matter Week of Action in schools during Black History Month in 2020…. NEA will specifically call for clear efforts to demonstrate support for the four demands of the BLM Week of Action in schools” which include “Mandating that Ethnic Studies be taught in preK-12 schools.”
- The National Education Association will create space in all individuals’ name tags, badges, and IDs for the individuals’ pronouns. The individuals’ pronouns will only be left off at the individual’s request.”
- “The NEA will contact all school districts… to recommend incorporating into their science curriculum, causes, effects, and solutions to climate change and pollution.”
- “NEA will work with current partners (such as GLSEN), to expand on the number of professional development opportunities for Gender Sexuality Alliances (GSA) advisors. This training should include, at a minimum: Starting a new GSA; How to handle possible backlash from different stakeholders.”
- “NEA will create model legislative language that state affiliates can use to lobby for a K-12 cross content curriculum that is LGBTQ+ inclusive.” (It’s bad enough that K-12 classes teach about homosexuality and cross-sex impersonation in health, sex-ed, and purported “anti-bullying” activities, but now they want indoctrination in the “LGBTQ+” ideology to permeate all content areas.)
- “[T]he National Education Association will explore the opportunity to create a Stonewall LGBTQ Scholarship for tuition assistance to an openly LGBTQ student attending graduate school who demonstrates a commitment to research and practice surrounding LGBTQ issues and awareness in our schools. This would be a tribute to the Stonewall riots.”
- “NEA will… call on educators to refrain from discouraging… students to not speak a language other than English at school.”
- “The NEA will publicize… a 100 percent student loan forgiveness program for educators… across the country.”
One interesting membership change was passed as well. Two-thirds of the delegates “voted to amend the national teachers’ union’s constitution” to allow “non-educators” to become members, which in turn allows them to “donate to the NEA’s political action committee.” Such “public education allies” won’t “be able to vote, nominate candidates for elected office, or hold governance positions within the union.” They’ll only be able to donate money, thereby strengthening the power of “progressives” within the NEA. If by becoming members, non-educators could vote and nominate candidates, conservatives would have reason to join, because membership might enable them to weaken the power of “progressives” within the NEA. But if membership entitles non-educators only to donate money, the effect will be to strengthen the existing power structure.
Wow! Sure glad my kids are out of school.
Parents: Please Consider Catholic schools.
Educators: Op-out under Janus. You do not have to pay dues to a union whose politics you believe are morally reprehensible, i.e., killing children by abortion rather giving them a chance for life
Or Lutheran School!. There are great home school programs too.
They’re just another arm of the democrat party. Sad for the teachers who don’t believe in these socialist policies.
On a more positive side, we’re doomed.

Welcome to the “UNACCEPTABLE STATES OF ILLEGALS AND GAYS”
I’ll take NEA’s position over the intolerance and hate exhibited on this blog. Illinois Family Institute is anti-gay hate group, which supports the criminalization of homosexuality. A central theme of IFI is anti-LGBT organizing and ideology is the opposition to LGBT rights, often couched in rhetoric of harmful pseudoscience that demonizes LGBT people. IFI has supported highly discredited work of anti-gay “researcher”, who has been thrown out of two professional associations because, as one said, he “consistently misinterpreted and misrepresented sociological research on sexuality
They also stand for injecting their religious views and believe that the separation of church and state should be abolished. They also believe in creationism and would like to abolish teaching of evolution in the classroom.
I don’t always agree with this blog, but we are Much better off with journalists that overly criticize our public officials and related entities like the NEA than we are with so-called journalists that just parrot supplied talking points.
Assuming the bullet points above are true, I don’t care if they were researched by the KKK and distributed by Adolph himself – the NEA, unfortunately like many institutions, has become not just anti-American, but anti-reality. Hopefully Trump’s election is just the beginning of the backlash against such insanity and we can indeed make America great again.
(And no, I’m not a ‘Trumptard’ or whatever the current term is – I didn’t vote for him, but do acknowledge that he has done a good job as president, especially his supporting the ‘drain the swamp’ sentiment shared by most Americans.)

That might hurt donations
Sounds like the NEA is doing the right thing. As a former educator and journalist I applaud the NEA for their ethical and moral standing in supporting all people!
Mary Pat: I can tell you are in education because your post is purely based on emotion. First, who said anyone supported IFI concerning this story? Like most people you have no understanding of what the framers meant by the separation of church and state. It simply meant that the USA would not establish a national religion like the Church of England or have it involved in it’s government structure like France during the 1200 and 1300’s. The concept is been so politicized and bastardized over the years, nobody has a concept of the original intended meaning. That’s your first lesson. Second, I probably know more gay people than you have ever met. I don’t care for the lifestyle but I leave it at the doorstep and consider many of them my friends. Like everyone, some are good people and others not. Most I have know are very good workers and have been co-workers. What people on this blog are upset about concerning this story is the in-your-face political positions of the NEA stated in the above story. Public and private educators alike seem to forget who pay your salaries. Your response illustrates why many parents have had it. You have no idea how many parents of kids you may teach read this to be informed since our local media fails miserably in doing this daily. It is why people read and comment on this blog. Your emotional and flippant attitude shows why some educators are thought in the same way as politicians. Kids can explore these subjects and form their own opinions on these issues when they have reached the emotional maturity to do so. It shouldn’t be forced on them by the NEA when they are in elementary school. Vote and act the way you want but don’t force it onnmynor anyone elses kids.
Keep going, there’s another “educator” who thinks teachers have moral authority over parents.
I ask my kids “Did you learn anything good in school today?” then follow up with “Did you learn anything evil?” It’s sad statement on our schools that I’m not completely joking…
Homeschool. It’s the only safe bet anymore. The Catholic schools teach that Israel is really called Palestine, in addition to other things that would surprise you. I cannot speak for the Lutheran school, Calvary or Cornerstone.
I went to Catholic schools for six years. Not once was I taught that Israel was really Palestine. The region has been known by many names throughout history: Israel, Palestine, Canaan, and home to the Philistines where the term Palestine really originated.
