Remember when Stan and Karyn voted NO to change Mitsubishi Mtwy to Rivian?

By:  Diane Benjamin

The name change happened at the July 1, 2019 Normal Town Council meeting:  https://blnnews.com/2019/07/02/why-stan-and-karyn-voted-no/

Stan was not only worried about the cost to IDOT of changing the signs, but the ripple effect across many platforms – including GPS.  All of the homes and businesses had their addresses changed which meant they had documents, advertising, etc that had to be changed.  Rivian agreed to cover their expenses, anybody heard if they did?

It looks like Stan and Karyn were right about changing the name causing problems.  McLean County still has the addresses listed on Mitsubishi Motorway in the Assessor’s office:    http://mcleanil.devnetwedge.com/

rivian Prkway

Are they going to mail tax bills to these addresses?  In reality they don’t exist.

This is the third name for the same road.  How long will this name last?  Maybe next time Normal will try something more generic.

  1. A “neighbor” named it originally
    PEARL HARBOR BOULEVARD!
I believe that’s fitting! After all, WHO made the Zeros?

  2. Normal doesn’t care…they still have the red street signs up that IDOT told them were illegal, too.

  3. NS Railroad’s yard office is on White Oak Rd., not Rivian < Mitsubishi < Diamond-Star. The South-to-North numbering sequence for the Bloomington segment (Rte. 9 to W. College Ave.) does not make sense. OSF is on the NE corner of Rte. 9 and Rivian, and should be the lowest street number.

  4. Tax bills? Are we to expect Rivian to actually pay taxes? If they are supposed to pay taxes, can they use this as an excuse? “We didn’t receive our bill.” Btw, why does the old address remain on their account in the system in the Assessor’s office? Shouldn’t that have been changed?

  5. The following still show Mitsubishi Motorway.

    – Google Maps
    – Mapquest
    – Apple Maps
    – Connect Transit

I just got tired of looking for anything that is updated.

Can you put a link to the council meeting so we can see who has egg on their face now.

    1. Dear concerned, instead of posting that information here, maybe you should contact each of the entities us listed to get the ball rolling

      1. The council majority said it was no big deal and/or they said Rivian would make it painless for everyone else. Sounds to me like each of the above needs a scathing joint letter from Normal and Rivian asking why they couldn’t handle such a simple task, along with a check from Rivian for their trouble.
Unless of course the council majority was either wrong or lying, but that Never happens, does it?
