Ward 3 candidate: Derek Mead

Press Release:

Derek Mead To Run For Bloomington City Council Ward 3

I am honored to announce my candidacy for Bloomington City Council Ward 3.  The consolidated election is April 6, 2021.

A lifelong resident of McLean County, including the past 8 years as a resident of Ward 3, I look back with great thankfulness for the deep roots I’ve established in this great county.  I am grateful for the influences that have positively affected my life, including my church, the LeRoy and Tri-Valley School districts, as well as being a graduate of Illinois State University.  I have two young daughters, Addison and Harper, who are my greatest assets and motivators.

Being firmly ingrained in this community has given me a strong passion for making positive change. As a father, I want to work hard to make Bloomington a better place for all children to enjoy a prosperous future.

After discussions with residents of Ward 3, I am excited for this opportunity to work toward a shared vision for the future of the City of Bloomington. As a father and businessman, I want to work hard to see that businesses grow and flourish and that families thrive.

It is my belief that government should work for the people it represents, not its own self-interests.  Through conversations, several common concerns continued to surface from not only the residents of Ward 3, but throughout the City.  If elected, improving our infrastructure, reducing spending, and focusing on the concerns of the citizens will be my top priorities.

A return to the basics of providing essential services, good stewardship of the citizens’ resources, and reducing the tax burden of the hard-working folks that fund our City are ideals that will guide my representation of the residents of Ward 3.  Listening to, interacting with, and fighting for people is vital to any successful form of government, and I believe I am the right person to help move this City forward and bring common sense into the next decade and beyond.

If you would like to discuss any ideas or issues, I am always open for business.  Please contact me at [email protected] or 309-532-5653.  Thank you.

  1. I look forward to hearing more from Derek. It’s imperative that Bloomington have sane voices who grew up in this area and understand it inherently. Instead of the carpetbagger communists such as Renner and Carrillo, and unpopular lawyer/sociopaths like Crabill, who somehow seized these offices while the community was asleep. No more ISU employees, and no more “I-know-better-than-you” sociopaths. And I WILL be there to either count votes or watch them counted on April 6.

  2. We need a few more to step up thanks Derek for being willing to put yourself out there. I look forward to donating to your cause.
