Remembering Bruce Meeks

By: Diane Benjamin

Long time followers of the City of Bloomington will remember Bruce Meeks for his frequent public comments. He endlessly fought for transparency.

This is Bruce in 2017 at public comment:

Bruce was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago. He has been treated in Wisconsin ever since. He has a very short time left to live. I want to publicly thank him for his efforts and for being a thorn in Tari Renner’s side much of the time. Bruce is responsible for Bloomington not having sub-committees (like the County Board) because those would have violated the Open Meetings Act and made it much more difficult for citizens to know what their government was up to.

Bruce was mentioned many times on BlnNews, Tari never gave him an award for this one: https://blnnews.com/2017/10/23/tari-needs-to-give-bruce-meeks-an-award/

Bruce had to send Tari a cease and desist order for his comments according to the Pantagraph: https://blnnews.com/2017/10/27/pantagraph-explain-why-tari-is-scared/

BlnNews.com has a ton of other stories that mention Bruce Meeks. Use the SEARCH feature if you want to see more.

More citizens should be like Bruce and stand up for what they believe. If you want to send thoughts to Bruce please leave them in the comments. Thanks for all you did Bruce. May God wrap his arms around you.

  5. To be honest I don’t know how to convey using words to Diane and those of you that commented. I appreciate that you took the time out of your very busy day the right some very touching. I used to say it all the time I do this for the many not for the one. My Diane I have a I have a lot of money spent over $10,000 talking to lawyers, purchasing databases for economic research, copies of requesting ordinance changes, and trips to other city council’s and see how they operated. As we’ve said they learned some people can speak the truth but some people can spew lies as if they are the truth that’s one thing I wish all of us and citizens to me ask that we just hit the truth and to give us that want to see the details. I think it’s and your words are given that Gary Lambert definitely the quality of his comments and how he was on target better than I was.

  6. Bruce,

Thank you for being a friend. You were relentless in researching issues and presenting recommendations to the City Council. You were disrespected and ignored.Your recommendaions always made sense to everyone except for the non sensical Mayor and City Council. I always enjoyed our phone conversations as well. Rest easy, have faith, and I pray your transition is as pain free as possible. See you in Valhalla!

    Have faith!
