You thought Unit 5 was good?

By: Diane Benjamin

A friend sent me this video, Normal was #9. Shockingly, the narrator stated Normal schools rated an F!

I emailed the video creator to ask where her information came from and she referred me to this site:

https://www.areavibes.com/normal-il/schools/

She included this disclaimer:

Source:  The Normal, IL education data displayed above is derived from the 2016 United States Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) and from the National Center for Education Statistics. The average school test scores are based on all schools that completed test scores within the state. Average test scores are conducted by each state independently and the type of tests may change from one state to another. Test scores were not available for all schools within the state, but were available for the vast majority.

School Board elections are also April 6th!

How high are property taxes now?

  1. One gets the sense that “amenities” have been a substitute and distraction from addressing real underlying matters within the community. Employment prospects are low, housing is bad, and the schools are failing, but gee whiz, we have brewpubs, a “thriving arts scene,” a wine bar, and street festivals.

  2. One of the reasons we bought a house in Normal 28 years ago was because of good schools. I guess they ruined that too. Well, that Progressive Marxist Democrats for you. They hit town and start blazing their path of destruction in all directions.

  3. And if anyone cares, Bloomington scored about the same on everything and was even worse for crime. Things are definitely looking up for the big BN. See what happens when you depend on one employer and educational institutions to move your community “forward”. Long live the Elitist Clique.

  4. Has anyone researched the Unit 5 School Board candidates? Are there any with conservative beliefs? Unit 5 sucks up the majority of our property tax bills, and it would be great to have new members who are fiscally responsible.

    1. I have. Not a conservative in the bunch. Cunningham is a Gunderson, Cumpston and Carrillo clone while the other candidates are either pushing race/diversity issues or have spouses working in Unit Five. You really have no choices if you are looking for a candidate that wants to fight for good education and be a responsible steward of your taxes. Terrible field of candidates. Only candidate worth your vote for HCC Board is Jim Drew from Lincoln.

  5. I reviewed what little information I could find on the Unit 5 board candidates. Only Dehaai, Czapar mentioned the words “fiscal responsibility” among their plans…likely vote bait. Nothing from the other candidates that I could find. Choices seem dismal and 3 will be elected.
