Zoom could be over

By: Diane Benjamin

Chris Koos announced last night the next meeting could be back to in person. Zoom was way more fun except for public comments that couldn’t connect and the “Can you hear me?” chorus.

Stan Nord pulled several items from the Omnibus agenda. One was the bills. Koos didn’t want to hear about the sweetheart deals again reported in this story: https://blnnews.com/2021/06/07/riveting-assemblage-tonight-in-normal/

Koos also has no intention of fixing property tax fleeces or cheap rent to friends. I did hear a rumor that Terry Ryburn has plans to vacate the property but nothing has been announced. Not much would change since she has been closed during most of COVID.

The citizens of Normal should be thrilled to know they will be charged 3 times for recycling. They pay for curbside pickup and they subsidize drop boxes. Since the County is now kicking in some bucks Normal residents will also be funding that. The Ecology Action Center will supposedly do an in-person survey at some drop off sites to find out where people live. They want to apportion the cost accordingly.

Stan Nord was vilified for mentioning the Town had previously stated the drop boxes would end to save money. Remember they gave away the boxes and truck to Midwest Fiber? https://blnnews.com/2021/01/04/normal-make-a-decision/

Midwest Fiber couldn’t operate profitably even getting product, drop boxes, and a truck for free. Stan was told the council voted to subsidize them. Of course they did, Council does as they are told.

Hear Stan and responses starting at 2:00:00.

Stan Nord commented at the end of meeting, see 2:14:00. He is concerned about failure to keep citizens informed. More on his comments at some point in the future.

  1. Random surveys are never accurate. Normal claims Bloomington was responsible for 33% of the recycling in the drop boxes…hmmm. That is why Bloomington is assigned 30% of the cost but will only have 2 of the 6 drop-boxes within Bloomington’s city limits.

  2. Random survey is an oxymoron akin to government intelligence!
You have a way BETTER chance of ET landing at your next BBQ-along with Elvis and Jimi Hendrix…
OH! And stay tuned… Biden is going to China and tell them what HE thinks they ought to do to help the environment and observe human rights. That ought to go over like an elephant passing gas in the back seat of a VW!

  3. You mean the 30 day window that state law allows for claiming emergency powers is finally over?!? Doesn’t Seem like it’s been 30 days already…
