Veteran teacher Ramona Bessinger, who teaches mostly nonwhite students, wrote at Legal Insurrection Tuesday of the drastic change that has come over her Providence school district since the implementation of “Critical Race Theory.”
Bessinger described the new program, based on the Marxist cultural ideology, as “the most racially divisive, hateful, and in large part, historically inaccurate curriculums I have ever seen in my teaching career.”
She explained:
Yes, I am speaking about the controversial critical race theory that has infiltrated our public schools here in Rhode Island under the umbrella of Culturally Responsive learning and teaching, which includes a focus on identities. You won’t see the words “critical race theory” on the materials, but those are the concepts taught. The new, racialized curriculum and materials focuses almost exclusively on an oppressor-oppressed narrative, and have created racial tensions among students and staff where none existed before.
In the new curriculum, Bessinger said she is no longer permitted to teach about the Holocaust, including through books such as The Diary of Anne Frank and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
In January 2021, Bessinger said the Critical Race Theory materials arrived, “all poorly written, historically biased, inaccurate, and pushing a racial narrative.”
“White Europeans were and are evil and African Americans were and are victimized by white oppressors,” she described the new program. “Woven into this new curriculum was a school-wide social push to focus on Black Lives Matter support groups and other social justice identity groups.”
“Teachers were encouraged to participate in ‘white educator affinity groups’ where we would be given essays on how not to be a white supremacist in the classroom,” Bessinger said, posting photos in her article from her school’s “Culture and Equity” newsletter, which showed scheduled “affinity groups” were segregated according to the race of the teachers.
The veteran teacher warned history and culture are essentially being “wiped out by political ideology.”

Maybe we should replace the school administration with a box of rocks. We could also use them to predict the weather.
Many of our overpaid administrators are about as smart as a box of rocks…although to be fair, they are scamming the system and retiring with huge pensions that we are stuck with. I think of the teacher union rep who had to only work one day in the classroom to qualify for an additional teacher pension. The working folks continue to get slapped in the face by select unions.
Unions and big pensions are selling our children down the river.

In a round about way I agree it is the goal.
Here is what I think they are thinking. They are TERRIFIED of losing the black and Hispanic vote. So terrified they will push CRT even though they know it won’t work. They did the exact same thing with defund the police. Push the racist agenda no matter what. They will do ANYTHING to tag “racists” on republicans. If it means destroying our children’s education and turning our nation into a caldron of hatred, so be it.
The midterms are the biggest issue right now. But they followed their radical social warriors too far and there is no way they can save themselves now. They will be neutralized in 22.
Question – will the republicans impeach Biden when they take over or will he be yanked from the stage before republicans can get their hands on him? I say he’s pulled before his term is up.
This seriously makes me angry. After a few of your posts, I have started researching how to get on the school board. BTW…that information is not easily located. The CRT is here, we know it, but I talked to a family member that is a high school counselor here in Illinois. She was shocked to hear about what is happening “downstate.” She stated this a doctoral level theory that should never be in the schools!!!
The banning of these Holocaust books is also very alarming. I distinctly remember reading Anne Frank in grade school. I read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas as an adult. Both still powerful in their own ways and any kid can and should be able to relate to both of these books. They should also read them and be able to discuss them with their parents. We need to speak up now. The silent majority no longer needs to be silent, we need to have our voices heard and loudly.
Ironic, I thought that 1984 was 38 years ago.. Seems it’s just ahead.. The ONLY thing that CRT will accomplish? is making TWO factions of our youth. US and THEM! Of course this sets the playing field for BOTH to be right, with disastrous results.
