Proof: How much you get paid doesn’t mean you are smart

By: Diane Benjamin

The Town of Normal attorney made a lot of money last year:

Yep, $195,105 because he’s a LAWYER.

I’ve written before about things he gets wrong, last Monday night he did it again. He is supposedly the resident expert on Roberts Rules of Order, Koos frequently asks him procedural questions.

Monday night Stan Nord interrupted Kevin McCarthy’s diatribe by calling a Point of Information. Just hit play below to hear what happened next.

Of course Koos called Nord Out-Of-Order. Since Stan knows Roberts Rules of Order, he appealed, Brian Day claimed Stan needed a second and a vote. Wrong answer! Day then said a Point of Information can not be used to interrupt a speaker. Wrong answer again Mr. Day!

Below is a handy little cheat sheet on Roberts Rules of Order, I suggest Brian Day and the entire Council print it out for future reference. If that is too difficult, fire Brian Day and get a competent lawyer.

  1. He also said the town’s restrictive public comment policy was legal before the AG ruled it illegal TWICE!!!.

Day and the “professional staff” get unlimited strikes.

  2. At that meeting, the Finance Director, Andrew Huhn, said Water Fund dollars were restricted to support only water system activities. He said this just after they used water fund dollars to purchase snow plows for the streets. He sacrificed his credibility to screw the taxpayers. More and more of Pam’s hand picked “professional staff” are proving they will lie when is suits their Queen’s.

  3. Even with the chart in front of them you are expecting a different outcome from the squad of Kind Koos lemmings? Good luck with that one as they clearly don’t give a crap about honesty or integrity. The agenda is to attack (Stan) truth at all costs unless the truth serves their purpose.

  4. From one Stan to another. Stan Nord, just my opinion. You are way too easy going on these idiots. They are almost always wrong. Why is it okay for McCarthy to interrupt YOU with a Point of Order? Koos almost has a coronary okaying it for him every time. After the Dictator said you could not speak, you said “Point of Order”, and it was never acknowledged. Why don’t you just tell them off? I know, civilized society and all of that…sometimes you just have to speak up! I sure hope at the next council meeting you show this chart when they give you the floor to make comments at the end of the meeting. And tell them, AND the attorney, they are WRONG..again!

    1. Believe me, what you are asking would be very satisfying to see. However, politically, his approach is brilliant. Keep chipping away at this garbage. Keep quietly being right and continuing to show up day in and day out. Eventually, people will see what is really happening.

If he blows on them, then they will say “mean tweets” and get to hide behind civility issues instead of having to face the substance of their actions.

  5. When in shark infested waters the last thing you want to do is cut yourself and bleed to draw more attention.

  6. What you’re omitting is that a point of information has to be an actual question on the merits of what’s been said, not a statement of opinion. Stan’s use of the parliamentary maneuver was incorrect, and thus the lawyer’s opinion was correct: to interrupt the speaker and interject an opinion would require a different type of motion.

      1. And his “try” was done in typical fashion. I’m not sure they fully understand yet that a whole lot of regular people are really sick of them, and sick of their predictable twaddle as well.
