Okay, they claimed the CDC isn’t requiring them, but the truth is school buses didn’t fall under federal law. Unit 5 sent the below to parents:
We wanted to update parents on state and federal changes regarding COVID mitigation that transpired over the weekend
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) provided updated guidance that eases guidelines for universal indoor mask wearing in K-12 schools and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 Community Level.
As part of that guidance, the CDC no longer requires masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, school buses.
Governor Pritzker also announced that in light of the revised CDC guidelines, the Illinois school mask mandate will be lifted effective Monday, Feb. 28.
Unit 5 had already moved to a mask recommended practice in its schools, based on recent court rulings. As a result of these new updates, the biggest impact for Unit 5 is that masks will no longer be required by students when riding a bus or van.
Unit 5 will continue to offer other COVID mitigation strategies, including voluntary weekly COVID screening for students and staff, providing masks, providing table/desk shields, teaching and reminding students of handwashing and respiratory etiquette, and advising individuals to stay home when sick.
We also want to reiterate that students and families should respect one another’s decision regarding masks. Harassment, bullying or aggressive behaviors are unacceptable. If a student or family feels there have been incidents of harassment, bullying, or aggression related to masks they should report it to their teacher and/or building principal. A concern resolution form is also available by contacting the school office.
As more updates become available from the Illinois Department of Public Health and/or the CDC, we will update our families.

Even Bloom School in Normal has gone mask option, this was included in their announcement email:
We anticipate that these rapid changes may prompt anxiety for some students. As our first question with any school policy change is about the impact for students, consultation with our teachers has been key to considering how to approach transitions. With your childrens’ teachers we have developed the following plans for Monday (Feb. 28) morning:
- We ask that all students start the day wearing masks upon school arrival.
- At the beginning of the day, each teacher will facilitate a developmentally appropriate class discussion regarding the changes to the mask policy.
- Following a natural transition in scheduled daily activities, students will have the option of removing their masks. Teachers will monitor students throughout the day and address anxieties, questions, and concerns that arise.
We know who caused the anxiety!

These people are determined to continue pounding students with the heavy hand of government. Bloom School wants the teachers to facilitate the unmasking. That is the parents responsibility, not the teachers. They have elevated themselves to a position they are not entitled to. The kids should have arrived at the school unmasked. Unit 5: where to begin…Even though they have had no lawful or Constitutional basis for masking our children, they continue with these other “mitigations” to keep the fear mongering going with shield, masks, etc. The biggest bullies without question are the teachers, the principals, the members of the school board, and the Superintendents. Yes, students are bullies too, but the adults are the worst.

I’ve told this time and time again. The staff, faculty and “COVID Committee” of Bloom School think they are higher than me as the Father.
Keep reminding them of their place. Do they feed your child? No. Do they provide housing to your child? No. Do they financially support your child? No. Do they unconditionally love your child as only a parent can? No. Remind them parents are the child’s first, last, and forever teacher. It is the job of teachers to teach arithmetic, writing, spelling, reading, geography, history. Unfortunately, the version of history Bloom teaches is likely very slanted.
Absolutely, I will continue to fight for what’s right. My child only attends Bloom Community School per his moms choice via her having “educational decision” making.
I only bring that you because the school has thrown that in my face via email, mind you, they should not use that as a form of defense or even know my private information. Regardless, I have rights as a Father.
The mask is the tip of the iceberg. My son has been injured multiple times and the school refuses to provide me an honest answer.
At the end of the day, the school continues to think they are above the law and can break the law because they are a “private school”. The school operates as a 501C3 Non – Profit mind you.
It’s also interesting to note that none of these teachers at this “community school” believe in God, and that’s another major problem.
My child’s teacher, Jessica Frederick told my son openly that she did not believe in God. It’s a super relative conversation to have with my child and the kids she teaches.
Mind you, Jessica Fredrick has also told me that she doesn’t have to give me an answer on how, when or where when my son received a massive contusion on his leg under her care.
I should send Diane the emails. It’s a train wreck of a “school”. There’s no curriculum, text books, nothing.
