Advancements in research regarding sexual orientation, gender identity, social, racial, and reproductive justice, and the long-term consequences of stigma and discrimination. Other additions include: advances in medical technology, the emergence of digital technologies, and the growing impact of social and sexually explicit media on relationships.
Inclusive and honest sex education goes beyond delivering information. It provides young people with opportunities to explore their own identities and values along with those of their families and communities. It also allows young people to practice the communication, decision-making, and negotiation skills they need to create healthy relationships—both sexual and nonsexual—throughout their lives.

Other McLean County Schools haven’t made a decision yet. Heyworth opted out. Parents can opt their children out, schools opting out is preferable.

School Board elections are early next year. Any school that adapts these standards needs replaced. Are you running? Are you going to VOTE?
Most people don’t vote in local election which is why you get what you do.

It is encouraging to see how many schools have chosen not to participate. At the same time it is maddening to see Unit 5 buy into this. Who is pushing this agenda locally and why?
Maybe the pronoun using Superintend
Just my opinion but I think it starts with the Illinois State Board of Education. They have implemented the social and emotional learning agenda which includes a number of things. Mainly it is based on the Critical Theory experiment. I would call it an experiment because the results (better grades and happier kids) of this national push are unproven. Actually I think there is more evidence that it is harmful than than any good it might do. Regardless of this the ISBE is requiring (as stated in the new teacher job descriptions) that teachers know about and promote critical theory based teaching and leadership. Then they require a report from school districts on their implementation of the directives. Therefore districts like Unit 5 and others have hired an Inclusion Equity Diversity executive level person to push the state’s new ideological teaching into our kids already confused heads.
Part of Critical Theory includes, among other things the highlighting of sex and sexual identity in students. So as a part of the performance grading of schools some kind of attention to this is required. Unit 5’s IED officer has taken the easy path of just purchasing canned programs provided by leftists social agenda outlets. So we get their Equity Action Plan that was completely written by a Chicago based organization making big bucks off of Illinois school districts to copy and paste their plans around the state. Then there’s the national sex ed standards provided by the porn and abortion industry, but again its something that is easy to copy and paste into the curriculum to satisfy the ISBE’s requirements to be socially “sensitive”.
Then there’s the district superintendent who I think goes along with all of this craziness because its just easier to check the boxes and comply with superiors than consider the children and parents, where her responsibility actually lies. Maybe she feels overwhelmed by it all, maybe she is afraid of the abuse from leftist friends she would get if she didn’t comply or maybe she just doesn’t care. Who knows?
SB818 passed in Springfield allowed district to opt out of the sex standards. Teachers are now trained in social emotional learning and culturally responsive educating. If your kids go to an Illinois Public school you won’t recognize them in a few years or less.
True Diane, Then there is the issue of harassment of students in Unit 5 who’s parents have opted out of the sex instruction classes. Will there be harassment by their peers or even by the teachers? And how will that affect the parent/child relationship? Billy and Suzy go to study hall while their peers are learning how to have fun sex.
Surely their friends won’t make fun of them. Right?
The schools are counting on it!
Let me be facetious (maybe) here – given some of the sexually explicit books and ideas used by the new sex ed curriculum, how could the superintendent deny kids the right to have something like an after school sex club? You promote exploration and acceptance, and encourage them to express their sexual feelings to each other and then tell them they can’t do it? What will you do then Dr. Weikle? You are putting yourself on that road so you should consider it.
Maybe an LGTB etc club, maybe they already have one.
