Bloomington wants court to vacate arbitrator’s ruling on fired police officer

BLOOMINGTON — The city of Bloomington is asking a court to vacate an arbitrator’s ruling that would require reinstatement of a police officer fired for his physical handling of a 7-year-old.

In December 2012, labor arbitrator Jeanne Vonhof said Oglesby should have received only a one-day suspension for failing to file a report on the incident. She said Oglesby should be reinstated and should receive back pay, but he has not been reinstated.

What the article doesn’t say is the vote by the City Council to continue trying to keep Oglesby off the police force was taken in Executive Session.  Just recently the Council voted not to release minutes for Executive Sessions.

Will Mayor Renner make sure the minutes are released?

How embarrassed will some council members be with their YES vote?

How are they going to justify the cost of continued litigation?

How are they going to justify the mounting back pay they will owe when they lose?

Would it be nice if they cared as much about the roads and funding pensions?
