For all the claims that Obama was riding on a crest of political popularity, and that the GOP was about to experience NRA blowback, and that the Tea Party had drifted away, and that a golden era of liberal socialism was sweeping away the Republican world, a philandering despicable Tea Party candidate, Mark Sanford, was able to handily defeat Elizabeth Busch. For those of us who haven’t lost any faith in the Tea Party, and who have proclaimed that the Democratic-based obituary on the Tea Party was way pre-mature, this election was a vindication of something which was obvious. After 5 years, the Tea Party retains ascendency in the Republican Party, it is here to stay, and any speculation that the Republicans have to compromise in order to stay relevant should now be firmly put to rest. This is a huge boost for Rand Paul as well. Obama has had a month that has truly sucked. The Tea Party has been given nothing but reason to celebrate. Obama and his supporters with their prognostication of Democratic ascendency are cordially invited to go suck eggs.

Note: Before anybody says Sanford is a flawed candidate, we agree. However, compared to the very liberal Busch, there was no contest. As Eric Erickson of RedState said today: Remember the left’s idol – Ted Kennedy, killed a woman. Sanford didn’t.
