Congratulate Walgreens for kneeling before government

by:  Diane Benjamin

Walgreens was threatening to relocate their corporate offices to Switzerland because of the high tax rates in Illinois and the country.  They had every right to relocate to place that wants them, not one that punishes success by confiscating profits.

Dick Durbin threatening them with this:

Walgreens made the right decision for its loyal customers and the future of its trusted brand. But make no mistake — the same Wall Street wizards that pushed for inversion will continue to pressure American companies to renounce their American citizenship for a tax break.

That’s why I introduced legislation last week that would ensure that no federal contracts would go to American companies who incorporate overseas. It’s also why Elizabeth Warren, Jack Reed, and I have asked President Obama to sign an executive order making it more difficult for other companies to invert. We’ll need your continued help to build on this momentum and keep the pressure on other corporations considering this kind of move.

Dick has no problems with the highest tax rates in the world because he has other ways to control corporations – cut federal money.

The federal government was designed to have very little effect on the general population.  The opposite is now true.  Corporations want bailouts and federal contracts.  Counties, cities, and states now beg the almighty federal government for funding.  Many have full-time grant writers looking for cash (which always has strings).  We have screwed ourselves waiting for crumbs from the master.

Here’s my email to Walgreens:

Dear Walgreens,

You are now permanently screwed by the Federal government because you want their money.  How does it feel to be a slave?  You volunteered for socialism because you want Medicaid and Medicare prescriptions filled at your pharmacies.  Did it hurt much when you grabbed your ankles?  Your company now belongs to the government.

Many Congrats, I wish you great success.  Being a slave is not going to easy, but then you volunteered for the job.

I hope you realize we are all on the same path.
