Dear Pantagraph,

Shocked!  I am shocked at your editorial.  I am shocked that it mostly covers the issues and covers them fairly!  When you disabled the comments to your Renner stories, I assumed you had folded.  I see some of them are now back, but not to the original story.

I can only take issue with one statement – “we are unaware of any other rash responses . . . ”

I’m not surprised you missed some other Renner rants, my lawsuit against the City wasn’t covered by you.

The lawsuit produced this email (among others) – a pure attack on another political opponent:  http://blnnews.com/2014/10/19/bloomington-meet-mayor-transparency/

Have you noticed Renner’s attacks on Alderwoman Stearns at Council meetings?  How many times does he have to cut her off before you notice he has a problem with opponents?  How about his prepared remarks against her after the last budget was approved?

More emails written by the mayor will surface soon.  The man is obsessed with silencing free speech.

Renner doesn’t have anger management issues, he has issues with anyone who challenges him.  His public persona is different from his private.  He proclaims transparency, but I had to file a lawsuit to get documents I requested under the Freedom of Information Act.  I’m still waiting for more that the judge ruled were illegally redacted, I’m waiting for your coverage too.

I am attacked by the mayor because I get in his way.  I post links to information, much of it from the City website.  Mismanagement and reckless spending is not something he likes citizens to know.

Maybe if you knew what was really going on at the Coliseum and reported the facts, you would be a Renner target too.   Type: Coliseum in the Search Box.  Did you know the Attorney General is investigating their refusal to comply with the Freedom of Information Act?

Maybe if you reported on citizen paid food the elected and David Hales consume you would be a target too.

Maybe your editorial will make you a target.  I hope so, being a government watchdog is the job you have forgotten how to do.  If you want to sell papers, the public is eager to consume actual news.  Try it.

  1. “We are unaware of any other rash responses,,,” The Pantagraph editorial is covering their butts as this is one of their few skills. If they were aware of any other rash responses then they would be admitting complacency which would not look good for them as they failed to report it when it happened. Other than that the editorial from this board exhibits that this particular out of control Renner rant surely has some of his big supporters noting that this is your last chance Tari, grow up!

  2. This whole “controversy” just makes most of us laugh. After all the vile things posted here over the years, the idea that you’d get all shocked and bothered over Renners response is the nothing short than the height of hypocrisy. We look forward to the next contrived scandal.

    1. You must need a reminder:

Tari commented on Does Tari know that Judy isn’t running?
By: Diane Benjamin The only interesting parts of last night’s Council meeting were the public comment and Aldermen …
NO! Diane! It shows what an ABSOLUTE AND TOTAL PIECE OF GARBAGE you are -actually worse because garbage can be converted into something useful – you are a TOTAL ABSOLUTE HUMAN CANCER! PLEASE quote me on that! I haven’ checked this site in ages because it’s mostly crazy bullshit -to be charitable! But, WHEN YOU ATTACK MY SON YOU ARE GOING TO PAY THE PRICE YOU SICK DIRTY SLIMY IGNORANT FOOL! And, frankly, that’s raising you to a level you ABSOLUTELY don’t deserve!
Nothing you ever report on this site makes any sense because I will give people anything they want to know about their government. Diane you REALLY are the craziest human being I”ve ever known. This WILL be my last post on this sick site of the worst part of humanity! The fact that some of you still think you’re Christians is PATHETIC! There is a special place in hell for you!

    2. HEY JAMES, note these definitions of some of the words you used. In relation to Renner and his history as mayor of Bloomington,,,the man screams hypocrisy and should tear up his recently signed Not In Out Town pledge card of which he proudly took the photo ops. His more voracious rants are against women, sexism. As Renner excuses this most recent rant in defending his son, it was an 11pm spontaneous reaction, not contrived as per definition. Bigotry, see the above. You would better serve the person you are trying to defend by understanding the reality that the man is sick and needs professional help.

      hypocrisy |hiˈpäkrisē|
      noun (pl. hypocrisies)
the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform; pretense.

      bigotry |ˈbigətrē|
      noun
intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself: the difficulties of combating prejudice and bigotry.

      sexism |ˈsekˌsizəm|
      noun
prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.

      contrived |kənˈtrīvd|
      adjective
deliberately created rather than arising naturally or spontaneously.
      • created or arranged in a way that seems artificial and unrealistic: the ending of the novel is too pat and contrived.

      1. Not defending him at all, although the straw man you built there is impressive. I don’t vote for him, but for Diane to keep up the crocodile tears is, let’s just say, amusing.

  3. I emailed my friend who is a professor at Stanford University what Tari posted on this site and they couldn’t believe that someone being a professor would do that. They didn’t have any idea what IWU would do.

I have read some emails on this site from Tari Renner and I cannot believe what I have read. Sounds like the typical verbiage, I’m educated and you know nothing response to me and very demeaning in what he says. I mean really a reference to “meds”. Sounds like this guy needs a distemper shot “meds” from some veterinarian to me.

I was trying to remember what office he tried to run for before. Thank gawd he never got that position. How he ever got in as the mayor of Bloomington is beyond me. Some voters should have seen the chalk board writing when he tried to run for office before and never elected him as a mayor. I bet there are a lot of voters that would like to do the election again.

Will he resign, why heavens no. That’s beyond his level of cognizance. He’s hell bent on what he did was right. I’m amazed, well not really, seeing posters on the Pantagraph site backing this man. Why if someone in my place of business said something like that to a co-worker they would be escorted immediately out the door. The mentality of some people today that support this is unbelievable.

If I was Diane Benjamin I would find me a lawyer and go after Tari Renner for slander. Maybe he’ll keep his mouth shut when he finds out how serious this could get. Then maybe IWU will say bye bye Tari because we don’t need publicity like this.

    1. How about charges for cyber bullying and threatening me? He ran for the House in Springfield, our President by his side. He got elected with a lot of money from local unions – public and private. They are happy, they have their raises now.

  4. bully 1 |ˈbo͝olē|
    noun (pl. bullies)
a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.

As mayor, he has power. Nuff said.

  5. I had forgotten about cyber bullying and threatening. No doubt there have been some cases based on those.

When I was young we would mess around and say things but not really mean it. When I read the part about paying the price written in uppercase that sure appears like a threat coming from someone who is an adult to me. We’re not talking some 5 year old here.

Wow I just heard on WJBC that the mayor called with a personal apology. The light must have finally came on for the mayor.

  6. Diane, it’s pretty rich that you can dish it out but you can’t take it. You have continually trashed the mayor on this site belittling him personally and his administration in very unprofessional and unjournalistic manner. You then mock his son calling him “little baby boy”.

This is blog a that you write which makes you a public figure. That you want to trash people and their off spring is shameless. Perhaps the mayor was unprofessional in his remarks, but you had a role in goading him to answer you in that manner.

It’s pretty revealing that you can’t accept the mayor’s apology and move on.

    1. Sorry to say R Kennedy he is a “little baby boy”. I mean really some 18 year old goes to daddy. If he had been my son I would have buried my size 14D Red Wing boot right up his rear and taught him a lesson to quit antagonizing people.

The owner of this site isn’t trashing your mayor. Everything I have read on here proves opposite to what you think. Even I’m over whelmed but the games your mayor has played along with the city to hide what is going on. Pray tell our local newspaper won’t do any investigative reporting.

As for the Diane I hopes she does seek legal input on the cyberbullying and threats the mayor has pretty much confirmed he did. The more people allow this behavior the more it will be done. Mayor Renner needs to learn a lesson he’ll never forget and made an example of. Even the SCOTUS will be weighing in on this subject.

If I had any employee dress someone down like that blog I would have fired them right on the spot. Just get the hell out of my business because I’m not putting up with people like that, period!

  7. Oh another thing R Kennedy.

Tari Renner ran for mayor for the city of Bloomington and won. He is the ship captain and responsible as the mayor. So suck it up and accept the responsibility. He wanted that position so now live with it and everything that goes with it!

    1. Excuse me, but Ms. Benjamin is somehow under the impression that this is a “journal” of some repute. Apparently, it isn’t. What the heck is she using this venue to taunt anyone whatever their age who isn’t a public figure? It’s pretty rich that she’s sitting around cry about cyberbulling when she was basically engaging in that very tactic? What response did she think she get from attacking the mayor song?

Geez, lady, you got you verbal apology, take it and move on..

    2. Yeah he won the election with 51% of the vote which also proves that 49% of the people who voted for him did’t want him. Add to the fact that another 90% didn’t vote, I’m not impressed.

  8. Again, you don’t really smell like a rose in this manner. You taunted someone who isn’t in the public sphere, in effect bulling him. His father became enraged and told you off. The post had some bad words, words that he probably should have typed, but it involved his kid and he was angry. You like pretend that your little blog is serious and you’re some sort of “muckracker”, you’re not, not if your attacking calling people names. Perhaps you should reflect on your words and your behavior in this manner.

    1. Hey bucko, the father got enraged at the mere mentioning of his kids name being mentioned as being a friend of the IWU student, the father used twice as a proxy to take verbal swipes at Ald. Stearns at two City Council Meetings. This IWU student was a moderator the Ward 4 debates and he and Alex Renner were together when the call was made to the father who then wrote the over the top email. The comment you are referring to that Diane made was made later. Now, if these college punks want to play, then they are fair game. Furthermore, it’s the Mayor, who is using this college kids to do his bidding. So get you’re facts straight jack!

  9. College punks? Really? I believe it was YOU Kevin who equated Renner to Hitler. It has been you and Ms. Benjamin who have been making over the top remarks. I have been monitoring Tea Party tactics and I have to say that this is the most juvenile blog I have read, and that’s saying a lot. I read the Mayor remarks, and they were the remarks of an angry father telling a bully off. If that was my son who Ms. Benjamin was attacking, I’d use even more choice words that she could cry about. As I stated, Ms. Benjamin can dish it out, but she can’t take it. If she can’t take some rough words or “vile: words, then perhaps she should shut down this blog and do something that would actually improve to the community, like feeding the poor and homeless.

Ms. Benjamin is yammering on about “free speech”. That free speech must only apply to her and those like you who agree with her.
