Fly on the wall: BEC

I heard the Bloomington Election Commission can’t tell candidates in revised wards how many signatures they need to run! I also hear candidates are told to consult a lawyer – sure, for a job that pays $2,300 a year. Brilliant. (You have ONE job)

I wonder if they know the law?

 (10 ILCS 5/29-4) (from Ch. 46, par. 29-4) (Source: P.A. 78-887.)

“Sec. 29-4. Prevention of voting or candidate support. Any person who, by force, intimidation, threat, deception or forgery, knowingly prevents any other person from (a) registering to vote, or (b) lawfully voting, supporting or opposing the nomination or election of any person for public office or any public question voted upon at any election, shall be guilty of a Class 4 felony.”

Ready to abolish BEC yet?

  1. BEC needs to be merged with McLean County. No need to have both. Same with Metcom and Bloomington 911. That one is actually a safety\security issue. People got their feeling hurt and things were seperated. Well those that got their feelings hurt are no longer in office, time for the grownups to act and put things back together. Does anyone have the courage?
