Illinois Treasurer’s unclaimed Property is a joke

By: Diane Benjamin

The first joke is companies send your refund directly to Michael Frerichs ICASH site without every trying to send it directly to you. It is probably spite for canceling service. Check the site and see if it happened to you: https://icash.illinoistreasurer.gov/

Unless the person listed is deceased, getting that money back is pretty easy especially if you still live at the same address. I talked to Sen Sally Turner, there is no law that fines companies for doing this.

I found 3 items on the site that were refunds owed to my deceased daughter. I followed the directions and uploaded all required documents through the link they provided. Frerichs office claimed they never got them.

Next I met with representatives from Frerichs office when they had an event here in town. They looked up to total refund due, it amounted to about $47.00. They suggested I mail the required documentation which I did.

Weeks later I received an email stating all the documentation was not included but no specific information was included. Yes, I MAILED them everything they needed.

I emailed them back saying you win, I give up. The office is a joke that wastes your time so government employees are kept employed running this scam. Prove me wrong Frerichs!

My email was not answered. It was sent August 6th.

  1. Its a hike all right

They breached data and lots misleading and a huge runaround (hearing Politicians advertising to help constituents find unclaimed items but thats also a joke)

Government ans banks can surveil folks in their homes and collection agencies track you down if you owe $10.00 but can not seem track people or family down id the state or org holds a huge life insurance sum or property of deceased.

The “service” is NOT that great (git 5.00 sitting at a closed bank account after a ton of MY time wasted)

The “service” is NOT that great but sure state spent tons & still do of our tax $

(got 5.00 sitting at a closed bank account after a ton of MY time wasted) – the bank was only 5 miles from where I live (they $ held for years apparently)

  3. Had the same experience getting a State Farm car insurance refund of $27 from my mother who passed away years ago. Tried several times, but not worth the hassle. (I have a brother so would be a whopping $13.50 each 🤣)

  4. Gave up on this also after sending in a ton of info to retrieve $14 on a utility account from my deceased mother. I think their purpose is to mine for as much information that they can get from you. Clearly not worth the time. Just another lever of State Government controlled by Democrats…

  5. Two of my deceased family members have unclaimed property. One amount is for $8 or $9, the other is $16. The state wants a copy of the wills, maybe a copy of the death certificates. These are documents that gumint already has. Why can’t THEY access the documents they already have??? What are we paying them for anyway? I would be splitting the total with 5 siblings. Simply not worth the time and effort to file a claim.
