3 Way Mayors race in Bloomington

By: Diane Benjamin

No one new filed in Normal. The deadline is close of business on Monday.

Current mayor Mboka Mwilambwe filed for reelection: https://bloomingtonelectionsil.gov/2025-consolidated-elections/

Who circulated petitions is always interesting. Former Alderman Joni Painter circulated for Mboka.

Did you know current Ward 1 Alderman Jenna Kearns is an attorney? She was one of the 5 votes to take the property rights away from Holy Trinity against their wishes. They would have sued the City of Bloomington if the historic designation had passed. Kearns should have known that as a lawyer. She could have cost Bloomington taxpayers thousands of dollars just in legal fees.

Don’t forget she doesn’t say the Pledge of Allegiance either. You have to attend a meeting to see that. Sometimes it doesn’t make the video.

Good thing Kearns has an opponent this time – Benjamin Zimmerman.

  1. Kearns is my alderman…and she has been a waste of time and space for Ward 1. I am going to go full out to support Zimmerman.

  2. yawn. they are all liberal spending egomaniacs that will raise our taxes and leave our streets to crumble and basements to flood. This is a town in decline despite what the local elites and their minions try to tell us. Thank heavens I will finally be out of here before too long.

  3. How are you finding the information about the filings in Normal? I am not seeing anything about who has filed for 2025 on the clerks website

  4. Good old Kathleen Lorenz throwing her hat in the ring. How is she going to lie to everyone and pretend she’s a republican? This will be interesting. Grab your popcorn.

  5. I wonder how many names Koos turned in signed twice. I saw a few but probably not enough to make a difference. His friend, Patrick Dullard, seems to be one of them.

  6. As a Ward 1 resident and property owner I am elated that Ms. Kearns has opposition. She is unresponsive and seemingly unconcerned with Ward 1 residents. Even the most rudimentary e-mail questions go unanswered.
