Bloomington Meeting Tonight

By: Diane Benjamin

The Bloomington City council is meeting tonight, delayed by Veterans Day yesterday. Agenda: https://d3n9y02raazwpg.cloudfront.net/cityblm/f7368c9b-5bbe-11ee-ae13-0050569183fa-791fe512-602c-4d20-98c8-ecdbbed39134-1731088776.pdf

On the Consent agenda, which means it won’t be discussed:

The changes:

This should apply to your neighbor’s dog that barks all day and the drivers with the music so high it rattles your car at stoplights.

Why this is on the agenda:

On the Regular Agenda is creating more bureaucracy by:

Of course that means another department head with the salary and benefits to go with it.

See specifics here: https://d2kbkoa27fdvtw.cloudfront.net/cityblm/200b1f9689a8d316827068a07eede6330.pdf

It does need to be easier for entrepreneurs to prosper in Bloomington. Creating more layers of government isn’t going to help as much as eliminating regulations and hoops to jump through.

The only other item is a resolution to protect the Mahomet Aquifer from carbon sequestration. The documentation claims a Council member requested this, it doesn’t say which council member. 😏

This shouldn’t be a long meeting.

  1. Good that we have 1 warrior on the agenda that cares about another guaranteed project (C02) at the expense of citizens. The marketing of (“saving the schools and cities and economy/jobs, ag innovation” in Central Illinois) Same marketing narrative for decades driven by same partnerships and get rich (Mississippi still has major issues and Mahomet Aquifer here already have issues/toxins and there are other factors not talked about).

Wealthy, landowners wand their families have pushed and gained from these projects for decades….Yet we still get our taxes increased and pay for their pensions and benefits for life.

ESG scoring has abused our area and citizens for a long time. (the club).

Sorry to be blunt but….this area is an easy test case/guinea pig for more “ag research” $$$ As they all retire rich.
