I had eye surgery yesterday that is temporarily making my vision really bad. This will be the only story today. If this story has errors it’s because I can’t proof read it. Don’t worry, it will get better.
Last night’s Council meeting had a bunch of Public Comments on different topics. Just hit play to listen.
Two were on lifting the ban on rent control. That is the dumbest idea ever and will lead to even less rental properties. Socialists don’t understand economics. Think back to COVID when democrats declared renters don’t need to pay their rent and can’t be evicted. I wish someone would compare the number of rental properties now and pre-Covid and factor in the the illegals that are living somewhere. Government can’t tell people to take a loss on their investment and expect them to still be in business.
All of the Public Comments are worth your time.
It was aggravating to hear the Finance Director state the property tax rate will be down. Duh, when your assessed value increases the rate will go down if the levy is flat. It is, so of course the rate goes down.
Later in the meeting several departments discussed thief excitement in implementing “lean” policies. Basically the people effected by how work is done are getting a voice in making it more efficient. That includes employees and people dealing with the City. It’s going to be good.

Rent Control does NOT work the way these folks think it does!
I mean – There cannot be low rent with high/rising expenses!!
Taxes, insurance, labor and materials cost WAY more than previous years!
Rent increases are being implemented to cover the cost increases we are all seeing across Illinois.
Which is primarily due to these huge property tax increases.
Look across the nation at the Blue states with Rent Control – you will see the outcome = more homeless/displaced folks!
PS – EVERYONE in Illinois is spending the majority of their income on housing! This is true across the board – this is not just a problem for folks who rent!
This is not a rent problem – this is a tax problem!
EVERYONE in Illinois needs to push back on these property tax increases = it is hurting EVERYONE!
I rent. I would have bought, but houses skyrocketed and I was not paying $50k over value. I did check yesterday and since 2021, the property that I rent at has had an increase of $70k over the last 3 years as to property taxes. Will someone ask Krystle Able who is going to pay that much of an increase over 3 years? She wants rent control but can’t keep her mouth shut when it comes to spending taxpayer money. She continues to spout rent control but has zero knowledge of the reasons rent keeps going up. What we need is politician control. We need to boot her with a whole bunch others. She is trying so hard to make a name for herself and her “Savior Complex” is out of control. My car insurance has also risen significantly in the last 3 years. Is Krystle going to be the savior for that as well? She seems to have a lack of understanding on how it works. We need insurance control! I say that sarcastically. We need Krystle Able control meaning vote her and several others out of office.
I wonder how the council would like it if the renters would implement a property tax control? Renters who are forced into rent control should ban together and implement a property tax freeze.
