Illinois has lost population for at least a decade. Jobs and lower taxes are the main reasons people leave.
According to a U-Haul report in 2024 Illinois improved from 48th state people leave to 45th. The states worse than Illinois are:

.
California, formerly a paradise of beauty and great weather, is the #1 state people are fleeing.
Unemployment continues to increase in Illinois. Small businesses will continue to close because of the high minimum wage as of January 1st. The unemployment rate is one of the highest in the country: 5.3%.

Excerpts:
“Nationally, we see a lot of customers moving out of our Blue states coming down to the south to the Red states,” said Merrill. “A lot of that has to do with pro-business and less government control. In Texas specifically, we see a lot of customers moving here from Illinois and the Chicago market.”
Merrill adds that the housing market is still very affordable in Texas. Illinoisans continue to pay the second-highest property taxes in the country.
The country is divided: Some states want opportunities for their citizens and some just want to control them.
It shouldn’t be a surprise which states people are moving too. It also explains why Illinois wants to keep people who entered the country illegally: Replacement theory.

So, when are you coming South Diane! Paradise awaits!
The tangible truths of the decline in blue states tax paying population are easily seen. What I can’t wrap my head around is WHY they stay blue? Why half the electorate are democrats? Why can’t people see the most obvious decay of America itself from the liberal democrats insane policies? Are half of us blithering idiots?!?
Most people stay because they would rather complain than do anything about their lot in life. Others stay because they are scared of change while others put up with it because staying brings familiarity with their situation and don’t want to learn a new area or community or in other words, the comfort factor. Others stay because they are waiting for a relative to pass on so they can inherit their property and live off someone else’s dime and hard work. Then there is the family excuse that only applies for a sick and helpless parent or immediate family member under your own roof. People in BN are some of the laziest and big time moaners around. Truth is, they don’t like to work that hard, like their secure tribes where they can act like big fish in a small pond and hide their incompetence and insecurities. Most know they would be eaten alive if they lived anywhere but Central Illinois, so they put up with it.
Pea, you escaped cuz you were smarter and much more resourceful and courageous than everyone else. But we’re begging you to please stop fueling our regrets. We all missed the opportunity to follow you through the wilderness as our prophet.
I will always live rent free in your head. How’s your Rivian stock performing these days?
Population decline is the perfect example of a death spiral. It feeds on its own incremental destruction. It increasingly gains strength and speed until it abruptly hits the ground in total destruction.
I’m pretty sure that one of the main reasons Pritzker wants to be president is that he knows the only remedy to a blue state’s deficit spending and tax increases is to pass the burden on to the nation as a whole.
The best things to happen to Pritzker were the Covid pandemic money pump and the Welcoming States immigrant dependency. That’s the kind of remedy that Pritzker looks forward to. The nationalization of state debt. Until then, spend as much as you can as fast as you can.
