Bloomington Last Night

By: Diane Benjamin

One public comment at 11:05 was by a guy calling for the City to quit burning the brush in parks every spring. He claimed it destroys wildlife habitat. It probably does but it is also the opposite of “being green” because it pollutes. Citizens aren’t allowed to burn brush inside the city, funny how the City is. Burning at The Grove is obnoxious.

The meeting was bland at best listening to department heads drone on about spending millions of dollars until one item caught my attention:

Flashback to 2017: https://www.wglt.org/show/wglts-sound-ideas/2017-04-12/preposterous-sewer-project-highlights-sprawl-issue

Tari Renner’s council didn’t want to spend money at The Grove for oversized pipes because they didn’t want development anywhere but infil. Back in 2017 the cost was $300,000 for oversized sewer pipes. Maybe someone can ask why pipes are over $1 million more now.

That $300,000 was included in the budget. Was the work ever done? Not everything budgeted gets spent.

City Manager Jeff Jurgens reported to lake water deficit is going in the right direction for now. Water is still down over 9 feet:

  1. Wglt says they discussed plans for a new fire station on South Morris Ave?
Don’t they have a new on on 6 points road(I get this is literally the dumbest, most remote location for a station, but they made their bed and have to sleep in it), and also another station nearby just west of downtown??

    1. 6 Points Rd station is now a storage facility for surplus equipment and used for training. I wonder if the aks were ver fixed? At least it isn’t sitting empty anymore like it did for years. The water tower built too short is NEVER mentioned.

  2. I listened to the fire chief and it’s actually an expansion to the existing Morris avenue station, which is small and only houses a few firefighters. No new station.

  3. Do the Restaurants in Bloomington that use the “Public” street and sidewalks as their own personal property and lounge space pay the city for that purpose? I’m assuming yes….but so many have assumed cute little dogs don’t bite and now have plastic noses.
