Only 20% of Bloomington-Normal cares enough to vote in local elections.
Local elections are far more important than national elections.
Normal: How does it feel to be buried in debt? How far does the “If we build it they will come” theory work?
CIRA is a beautiful complex, but is it now pretty worthless since the Feds have withdrawn funding? Will any new airlines fly from here?

City employees: Do you want your pensions funded?
Do you want your money spent on west-side Gateways and Bike path extensions toward Towanda while the city roads and sewers are crumbling?
Can you afford to send your kids to Heartland anymore since the tuition keeps increasing for baseball and other non-essential spending that violates what a Community College is suppose to be?
This is the short list.
If you want government with integrity, people with integrity must be elected! If you don’t inform yourself and Vote, the tyranny of debt will continue to mount because the elected have no reason to fear you. The longer the same people are in office, the less fear they have.

CIRA is not closing down. It lost $500,000 in funding, but they said they had “extra” funds this year to cover the loss, and will budget for it next year. I saw the guy who runs CIRA on the news the other night, and he said, “we can budget better than the Federal government can”. Our airport is not closing. Up until a few years ago, the airport did not have air traffic controllers at night. It was stated yesterday that this is NOT a safety issue. It appears to be media and political hysteria.
Sort of, what are the long range prospects when the FAA is supporting Peoria instead? Is it going to be cheaper to drive there and fly because ticket prices will have to go up? The goal was to make the airport regional and draw more flights into Bloomington. Those in charge were dreaming and thought if the facility was built it would be successful. It will stay open, but growth could be very limited.
State Farm will keep it open. They have a financial stake in keeping the airport up and running.
Tax the rich, that always works. Will it end up being an airport for private company jets? Don’t need a tower for that.
I don’t think the cuts were deep enough to hurt the airport. If CIRA had an extra $500,000 lying around to cover the cost of the budget cuts, I think they will make it.
I didn’t imply that CIRA should tax the rich…but they have a vested interest in keeping the airport open. State Farm probably pays more in taxes in this city than any other business only because they are the largest and employ so many people.
Just assume I’m sick of spending by people who think they are so much smarter than anybody else. Stockton California elected officials probably believed they were really smart too.
