A neighbor told me Mayor Renner’s pick to replace Jennifer McDade on the Bloomington City Council is a big Obama supporter. Okay, I can see somebody making a mistake in 2008, but 2012?
No surprise since Tari doesn’t consider himself a non-partisan mayor.
Does Ward 5 feel they will be represented by Painter? Maybe she is part of the 71% who now wish they hadn’t voted for Obama!
The potted plants will approve of his pick unless you speak up.

A Joni Painter appointment is more than a mistake – it’s a deliberate act of local politics in quaint Bloomington following in the footsteps of big city Tammany Hall corruption at its finest and leaving any genuine exercise of transparency far removed from the reality of the cheap talk going on in City Hall.
The cold, hard, SAD fact of the matter is that Ward 5 wasn’t really represented by Alderwoman McDade. It’s easily to believe McDade was heavily influenced by ISU, State Farm and EDC agendas, and thus, there lie her allegiance and representation.
One only need review her actions and votes to discover the majority of her performance was not in the best interest of Ward 5 residents. While McDade did have her good moments and sometimes took the lead with common sense logic, typically that was not the case.
Will Painter perform any better? Hardly, at least not for Ward 5. Her lack of exposure to and engagement in local issues, her lack of knowledge of Ward 5 constituents” concerns, her lack of public policy inner-workings and general overall knowledge regarding Council business, all makes a bad recipe for adequate representation of Ward 5 citizens. Painter, as research indicates, does not attend Council meetings, or any meetings for that matter, save for Library Board meetings, most likely representing the Mayor’s agenda, by whom she was recently appointed.
Painter’s limited experience and exposure there, in many citizens opinion, does not qualify her as the wisest and most common sense candidate.
What Painter will qualify as is, again, a vote for the Mayor’s agenda. With limited knowledge and experience with local issues, etc, she will certainly look to others to guide her decision-making process. Odds are that guidance will be influenced by the Mayor whom she might be beholden to.
The other cold, hard facts are that one of the candidates for consideration is Matthew Koetters. Koetters was McDade’s opponent in the most recent Aldermanic race. Koetters lost, but only by a slim margin. In the process, Koetters won over 40% of the vote in Ward 5. Citizens felt he was a good choice. Koetters knows the Ward 5 citizens, is familiar with the issues, has common-sense dialogue about issues with reasonable suggestions for moving forward and solving problems. Koetters is a local attorney and is a reasoned individual with experience in solving problems and finding solutions to difficult issues. The citizens of Ward 5 know Matthew Koetters. The Citizens of Ward 5 deserve Matthew Koetters.
Heres’ why –
Koetters is the only individual besides McDade who offered to serve Ward 5 Citizens in the last election. Painter didn’t.
Koetters, essentially, placed second in that election. Painter didn’t.
Koetters has earned the right to now represent those citizens. Painter hasn’t.
For the Mayor to choose any other candidate besides Koetters is not only another travesty this local administration will engage in, to appoint Painter, or any other, in his stead, will do a disservice to Ward 5, its citizens, and to the City.
But, what are the odds the mistake is made?
The Liberal Press
Ah the mayor appoints no opposition cause he knows he can’t win a debate when presented with logic or common sense. Such will be the downfall of such fools. “Give me consensus,,,” shouts the mayor “,,,or I shall take my ball and run home!”
I listened to her speak this afternoon on wjbc, she is a planted pot. Anything Renner wants, she will vote for. Such a meek and weak individual.
Unless the citizens demand change – they will get her!
The local liar in chief will do appoint who he wants.
Obama worse than Bush before him. Renner worse than Stockton!!! I am seeing a pattern here.
She is quoted in this morning’s Pantycrap that she does not have an opinion on the modified ward issue. She is either:
a. A lier
b. Uninformed
c. Unable to reach a conclusion
d. all of the above and unqualified to sit on the Bloomington City Council.
Not qualified as per your observation but may fit right in as “b & c” will satisfy the Renner objective. Woe to the people as the progressives continue to step backwards.
