I was looking for something else when I found an old email from now Mayor Renner. This is from BEFORE he won. 3 tax increases and massive spending increases later, did you get what you voted for?

Thanks for thinking of me! Things are REALLY REALLY crazy – but that’s a good thing.
We are way ahead of where we were four years ago on every front actually.
I agree with you that the election would be a more clear, crisp contrast if it were vis-a-vis an incumbent.
As a ‘former’ council member, Hanson voted for absolutely everything Tom Hamilton wanted but that’s inside baseball for many people.
Regardless, I intend to run clearly and decisively to the Right of Hanson on the fiscal issues.
If you contrast my twelve years on the County Board to his six years on the city council, it’s clear who spent moneylike a drunken sailor.
We’ve got a mailer going out entitled: “Bloomington Taxpayers can’t afford John Hanson…When he was on the City Council, he took US to the cleaners”
It outlines (and documents with dates and ordinance numbers) his votes FOR a $30,000 video game amidst a budget meltdown, a pay raise for the city manager
during the same budget crisis, a golden parachute budget busting early retirement program (same time of course) and a $3 million fire station that the firefighters
said that couldn’t staff that still sits empty! (that’s one reason why I think they’ll be endorsing me along with – I hope – the cops who are really ticked off at Aiken and Hamilton and, by extension, Hanson).
I am looking forward to next week’s debate hosted by the Tea Party and 92.9.
I hope it gives us all the opportunity to make our case.

It’s no wonder that he failed miserably when running for state representative. Fooling 5000 or so people just wasn’t going to be enough votes.
