Renner is going to appoint one of the two candidates who applied to fill Fazzini’s seat.  We already know who Renner is going to appoint, even though the Pantagraph is reporting she will be interviewed by phone.  He is going to appoint Diana DeSio Hauman, it doesn’t matter the other applicant (Alton Franklin) attends virtually every Council meeting and frequently participates in the Public Comments.

I wonder how she will make it to Council meetings if she can’t do an in-person interview?

Or maybe Renner doesn’t want to take up her time since the result is already a given.

  1. We are in a state of local government beyond arrogance, beyond shame, and apparently beyond accountability. Cronyism doesn’t even begin to address the level of incestuous, back-room, double-handed dealing that seems to occur. The appointment of Diana Hauman, which is likely given her network of associates and affiliatons, is just another confirmation.
    Two facts are evident here:
    1. Whether one fancies Alton Franklin or not, he is engaged, citizens know his positions, he is knowdedgable regarding municipal issues and procedures, and is not beholden to a network of associates or affiliations, save for the citizens.
    2. While citizens are not aware of Ms. Hauman, by knowing her network of associates and affiliations is enough and who she is beholden to, and it becomes a fairly safe proxy of her position and where she will stand on local issues – hence, her appointment.
While Franklin’s appointment wouldn’t change the outcome of any vote, project, or plan, his viewpoint, differing from the majority consensus, may have an affect on what some people might think or don’t already know. The powers-that-be won’t risk that.
The safe play is Hauman. The odd-on bet is Hauman. And the vote you want is Hauman.
It’s a sad state of affairs for local government, and for the people of this community, especially for those who aren’t tuned in to what’s really happening.

  2. Diana’s husband David is a big friend of Fazzini’s. He helped with the Ward remodification campaign and I’m sure she’s not only Renner’s pick, but Fazzini’s as well. David Hauman is a democratic precinct committeeman along with Lynne Fazzini. No surprises here. It’s about as predictable as Fazzini stepping down before his term is up. This is what I call transparent government: You see what’s going to happen before it happens.
Hopefully Alton will run against her when election time comes. He has my full support. Or better yet, Alton, why don’t you run against Renner.
