Is the Coliseum failing?

The information below is posted on the City of Bloomington website at:  http://www.cityblm.org/index.aspx?page=21&parent=6548

The Coliseum is on a fiscal year – May 1 to April 30th of each year.

This is the actual income reported for the second Quarter for each year and the year to date income.

2nd Quarter            Year to date

2012                   623,180                   1,006,156

2013                   528,278                   1,017,792

2014                   615,860                   1,111,649

2015                   395,379                     726,370

The audited financial statement show a net operating loss 4/30/2012 of:   1,071,599

The audited financial statement show a net operating loss 4/30/2013 of:     873,551

The audited financial statement show a net operating loss 4/30/2014 of:   1,637,477

Income this year is down almost $400,000 from last year.  How big is the loss going to be by 4/30/2015?

  1. huge…as it looks now. Hockey drawing an actual crowd of under 1,000 per game doesn’t help. No shows. Looks like the suites are empty (how does that help renewals for next year?) do they even have club seats anymore? Concessions numbers look awful. Have they made any staffing cuts?

  2. Taxes go up, people have less money to spend. Some even strike out against city sources of revenue and then give less by refusing the non-essential (quality of life) city entertainment venues. City councils typically have little business sense. It’s a crying shame.

  3. What about having a big bake sale 🙂 – is that something else everybody wants ( the excuse for overspending on everything else ) in order for people to want to live and work here 🙁
