Determining how many employees the City of Bloomington has is a problem since the numbers reported often conflict with each other.
The mayor and some candidates keep saying Bloomington has severely cut the staff, some candidates (Renner’s picks) want to hire more people.
I found a website with the number of employees the City has reported to the State of Illinois. http://warehouse.illinoiscomptroller.com/ProcessSearchResults.cfm?AFRDesiredData=Population,%20EAV,%20and%20Employees&Code=064/025/30&CFY=2012&Menu=Yes&PrintIt=No

The State website was started in 2012, so older information is not available.
For 2011, I looked at the monthly report David Hales posted for January – the oldest report on-line

Remember all the staff who were cut when the recession hit?
Obviously the City has been going backwards.
Lesson: Government never has enough employees. Some element of life is always left to be controlled!
It’s no wonder that Hales left Bend, OR., with sealed records. Hey Bob Barker, let’s make a deal, I’ll go through door #2 and forever go away it you don’t tell what’s behind door #1.
Interesting read………………… Maybe this has been discussed before.

Didn’t he go to Indiana after that. Seems like I recall seeing that someplace. I may be wrong.
Seems to have centered around a review with input other than the city council. Must have gotten reamed by a few outside would be my best guess.

Peters said. “I heard a statistic somewhere that the average life of a city manager is two or three years.”
We could only wish that were true for Bloomington.
Citizens should put together a referendum for the next election in regards to the city manager position since the potted plant council is a joke.
