More Coliseum FACTS-UPDATE

One note:  2007-2008 is only for 11 months.  I’m trying to locate a 12 month report.  It’s NOT on the City website.  Revenues are down even more than this report shows.

The below are from statements prepared by Central Illinois Arena Management.  These are the un-audited version.

The 2007-2008 statement is not on-line.  See it here:  2007-2008

The 2014-2015 report can be found here:  http://www.cityblm.org/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=8700

(A year-end report is listed, but I have never been able to open it)

Recap:

Revenue is down almost $850,000, but salaries are up $23,600.

Does anybody at the City care?  Why is CIAM allowed to do this to taxpayers?

Shouldn’t payroll expense be CUT if Revenues are down?

Does government live by different rules?  Yep.  Will the media report?  Nope.

  1. “Looking ahead, the FY 2015 General Fund budget adopted 6.5% increase in expenditures along with a 5.6% increase in revenues. In FY 2015, a bond refunding will be done to realize savings on the 2004 Series Bonds related to the Coliseum.”

They City budgets greater expenditures than revenues–why not the Coliseum? Must be “standard practices.”

  2. The Coliseum Stuff just irks me to no end. I am trying to validate the truth or accuracy of what I was recently told, but it came from a reliable source so I’m thinking it it likely true. I am the parent of a Bloomington Youth Hockey player (travel youth hockey), we rent a lot of ice time from Bloomington Parks and Recreation. We pay approximately $225 per hour. We use a great deal of ice time on the Coliseum ice. What I was told is that the Coliseum charges rent back to Bloomington Parks and Rec for the ice at a significantly higher price (more than what they can charge back). In other words, they charge back the city an inflated price to use the ice that they already own that would otherwise be sitting empty. This is outrageous to me. I’d sure like to verify if this is true, but as a BYH parent, it would sure be frowned upon if I were asking too many questions.
