It’s a common scene all over town.
Is it a need or a want?
That ain’t NOTHING compared to the intersection JUST north of the POST OFFICE in FRONT of Community Players! When we get a good rain that WHOLE intersection floods and will come up to the bottom of your car door! Don’t think I’ve EVER seen any CITY folk over there unclogging the drains. In fact, the trees there were trimmed by a local neighbor, as the city, P.O or landlord, NONE of which will do ANY work on those trees! Now that’s QUALITY of life!!
People need to take responsibility to help clear the sewers of leaves and debris. My street would look the same if my neighbors wouldn’t help keep it up. We can’t blame the City for this happening! The job would be endless and ir takes little time by the homeowner to help out!
In many cases, it’s not just the leaves clogging the drains. In some areas like where this picture is taken, there is not enough soft ground or a retention basin to absorb and hold the water and the sewers can’t handle the large volume of rainfall.
Agreed. Just like people “need to take responsibility to” entertain themselves, also. We don’t need stinkin’ multi-million dollar taxpayer subsidies of the JudyDome and BCPA!

Well Due, we USED to do it, but was INFORMED by some CITY workers several years back that THAT’S a UNION job and We ARE NOT supposed to interfere with CITY property! Plus they ALSO told us that IF the drain gets plugged by debris, WE ARE LIABLE! Better ask Tari or Dave to see IF they have NEW RULES/LAWS!
Tough question to answer. If you get hurt while removing debris and go after the city you may not have a leg to stand on. No pun intended. I could see the city being liable if you reported the standing water and they did nothing and say for example an accident happened because of it. If you get involved and something happens you could be liable even though your intent was a good one. Hard to say. I’d just report it and leave it alone.
Funny thing about unions. When I worked for GTE of IL we weren’t allowed to even unplug a phone and move it to a new work area. If the union caught you doing that they would file a grievance. More or less the same at ISU at one time and may still be the case that if you moved your office contents they could file a grievance. I don’t think they can file a grievance against the public but they probably could against the city for allowing the public to do their work. Maybe that is what they meant.

Probably clogged with street debris from surface breakdown from lack of street maintenance. You know pieces of asphalt, concrete, etc. from the potholes.
Where was I at one morning, oh on east Grove from Center over to N. Clinton St. on my way to the Grove Street Bakery. What a horrible street and I had to dodge bad places in the street. You know citizens should be pitching a fit to the city to fix those streets.
I din’t see any bicyclists out yesterday. Sissies!
I heard there was one on Front Street last night in the HEAVY fog. No lights.
We get the same thing on E. Grove behind Washington Elementary. There is no blockage either!
