Vote or get blamed!

By:  Diane Benjamin

I heard again last weekend “I don’t vote in primaries because I don’t want to declare a party”.

The guy who said it will complain in November about only having the same inept people available to vote for.

The GREAT candidates lose in the primary.  Challengers don’t have the money incumbents have, so they can’t get their message to everybody.

If you don’t pull a Republican ballot JAMES MARTER will lose to Mark Kirk – the guy running in the wrong party.  Kirk will lose in November.  Marter is 100% conservative, a great family guy, and a small business owner.  He’s not running because he wants a permanent job like Mark Kirk.  He is the candidate citizens can respect.

I will be voting Republican but I can prove I will never be part of the local Republican establishment.  Pulling a Republican ballot only means that party has at least a couple of people worthy of election.  How to send a clear message to the GOP:

If you see uncontested races and you really don’t like the candidate – leave it blank!

Candidates look at how many people voted and how many votes they got.  If they don’t get most of the votes it sends a clear message to them – people aren’t happy with you.  It also sends a clear message to people who may challenge them in the next election.  We want a better choice!

The GOP establishment now dislikes me even more!  Rocking the establishment boat is forbidden!  Too bad.

County Board District 2 may elect Matt Sorensen today, or maybe one of the four write-ins.  The establishment is probably hoping for Matt so they can pick his replacement instead of voters.  I’m one of the Write-Ins.  Campaigning and meeting voters was fun, the results will be interesting.

Same day registration is legal in Illinois.

If you know a 17-year-old that will be 18 before the November election, they can vote in the primary.

Quit using excuses for not participating in government.  Not voting makes sure your opinions are immaterial.   Voters with opinions opposite of yours are heard.

That’s not a strategy for success.

  1. Too many people in AMERICA take voting for granted! When I visited the Czech Rep several years back, Vaclav Hammel (who was the first voted in President) was in the town square of Praha handing out roses to the women. He HAD been imprisoned for his “speech” against the communists only a few years earlier. My friends and I spoke with him-interesting man, and Lucy got a rose. American could USE some citizenship lessons in that respect. Get out and vote.

  2. Dianne, I hope you did well today. Hopefully the word got out about your candidacy. I have never seen so many folks vote in a primary. Hopefully more people realize what a gift and privilege it is to vote. I think I am putting my name in for election judge next election to help make the lines go faster.
