Black Lives Matter Blono has been raising money to bail a mother out of jail in time for Mother’s Day. They raised $1010 of the $1500 they wanted.
This morning bail was posted for a mom who has been in jail for 11 days. A rep from the YWCA filmed the reunion live. The video doesn’t say why she was in jail, only that she has a previous record. Some accusations were made about blacks being jailed when white accused of the same offense were released without bail.
I find it hard to believe anybody in town would support discrimination in the justice system. I would be more than happy to team up on a project to show facts. Every arrest and consequences for the same crime could be FOIA’d. Since the video doesn’t say what the crime was, I can’t do the project without facts.
If racial discrimination does exist, we need to work together to fix it. Contact me. I’m sure it will be a Happy Mother’s Day!

I agree that this is an admirable program. I also agree that facts matter. Gathering all of the statistics and presenting them to an unbiased group would be most helpful.
For the record, Cinnamon, the person wearing the hat, was the BLM member who posted on FB #BlueLivesDontExist. It is difficult to have a conversation with a group whose members foster that attitude.
When one can’t acknowledge that All Lives Matter then they’re hypocrites to the extreme, destroying their own message. Such fools exist. Sad.

Yup. To some, the answer to racism is more racism.
What’s interesting is that BLMs focus has been on the Police….correct me if I’m wrong, Police don’t set Bail do they? Maybe BLM needs to focus on legislature. That’s probably to hard, much easier to hate police and divide people. Remind me again was it a Democrat or Republican who set up such harsh sentences for drug offenders. One last note the woman bailed didn’t even seem sure of what City she was in….why?
Bail is set by the judge at the initial hearing. He/she has a good deal of latitude. Generally, considerations include severity of the crime, the risk of flight, past criminal record (later not admissible in front of the jury), and persuasiveness of legal counsel when presenting their arguments on bail.
BLM wants something referred to as a no cash bail because the PoC who are arrested are usually impoverished, can’t afford bail and remain (unfairly) incarcerated. The argument is “innocent until proven guilty therefore shouldn’t be in jail.”
The judge also has an option to release without bail based on the above mentioned criteria.

This appeared in the Pravdagraph on Saturday and it did state why she was in jail. I don’t remember. I just read it, made a comment to myself and moved on. Maybe she’ll show up at tonight’s demonstration at City Hall.
Just for the record, the woman is from Springfield and she was being held on burglary charges for retail theft over $300 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was given a bouquet of roses, a card with $100 cash and a BLM t-shirt as Mother’s Day gifts.
Guess an I love Down Town T-shirt would not be appropriate since she was trying to get out of the Downtown Bloomington catalyst project, the McLean Co. jail.
Her bail from Springfield may be revoked because of her arrest here. The best thing BLM could do is make sure her adorable daughter doesn’t follow in her mom’s footsteps.
Inherent bias. Look at the stats. People of color are more likely to be assigned bail while whites get released on their own recognizance. This results in a loss of job, home, and family. Remember the Constitution: you’re innocent until proven guilty.
Where are these stats? She got bail because she was free with another case pending.
Rich—The woman was released for her crime Springfield. She was on probation pending her court hearing in June. She chose to come to Bloomington/Normal to commit the same crime she was arrested for in Springfield. Repeat offenders face harsher judgements.
