If food is important to you, please help… In 2017, after five years of grassroots organizing and capital-raising, Green Top Grocery Cooperative opened in Bloomington IL. A key part of our mission is to support local family farms by making fresh, nutritious, locally-grown and -produced goods readily available in our community. Our little co-op has done incredible things and made huge impacts on people’s lives… but now we’re the ones that desperately need help, or this store — owned by 2500+ friends and neighbors in our community — will be forced to close.
Our finances have become critically tight in the last 8 months, but we have prioritized paying our local vendors (they are the lifeblood of our store and the heart of our mission). An IRS reimbursement check of approximately $100,000 was supposed to arrive in January and would have provided some relief, but that money is currently on indefinite hold and we have no way of knowing if it will ever arrive (or if we’ll still be open to receive it). We are now facing balloon payments on the loans from our two bank lenders, with substantially higher monthly payments/interest. These combined factors have rapidly drained our limited cash reserves and we have been unable to secure more favorable loan terms.
Your donation here will go directly to pay local farmers and producers so they will not be adversely affected while we explore every avenue to keep our store operational.

Apparently their business plan was/is seriously flawed. They’ve a ‘feel good’ virtue signaling approach to a very competitive market….. ain’t gonna work. Especially given Bidenomics inflationary climate……even the progressive libs are shopping at Wal-Mart to save money.

An easy way to remember the different spelling between dessert and desert because there is a big difference.
Dessert has the letter s MORE times than desert because you always want more dessert (cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, etc), whereas desert has cactus, while still edible, not really that sweet/yummy/fun to eat. LOL

Dear Greentop, I used to spend a couple hundred dollars a month in your grocery store. In fact, prior to the summer of 2020 when George Floyd purposely swallowed a lethal dose of fentanyl to avoid arrest, I was “an owner” in your co-op. I imagine there were quite a bit of us who shopped there before that day your I HATE COPS flags went up (which is the last day I was there by the way) since three years later you need $75,000 to survive which is surprising economically to me because you should be bringing that in weekly which tells me if we don’t “donate” to you now, you will be closed by April 1st. Do you still donate to Planned Parenthood? Are your employees still wearing masks? Are you willing to issue a public apology to those you have offended? Conservatives, Christians, and especially BPD and NPD??? I will be in same day the apology is issued and encourage everyone I know to as well. Clearly you need our patronage and we all aren’t coming in until you do. A GoFund me is life support. You want economic sustainability? Tell your actual paying customers, those without LINK that you are sorry. Also as far as your ERTC that hasn’t come in, your government gives that money daily to Ukraine. Why do you hate a small business doing what it takes to survive? What does it matter to you if they’re asking for donations instead of upping prices? Everyone who has invested there and shops there has chosen to do so.

The taxpayer-sponsored, lowercase “go fund me” didn’t work, so they’re turning to private sources of funding. Now that funding for Green Top is strictly voluntary and not taken from taxpayers by force, we’ll see how strong their support really is. At present, they’re hovering at around 5% of their fundraising goal of $75,000. Even if they raise the full amount, it is likely only going to buy some time and postpone the inevitable. Can’t wait to hear who Green Top will blame for what was a really bad idea from day 1. Think the leadership of BN or voters will learn their lesson from this one? Neither do I.
I thought it was pretty dumb when they located in a new building. Thinking people start small until they know success is possible. Subsidies drove their decision instead of economics.
